About / Biography

My name is Katherine Gavin.
I am a professional pianist and harpist with 14 years experience in the music industry. I am based in Ireland and available to travel worlwide.
Growing up in a very musical family, Irish traditional music played a big role in my early years, but as I developed musically, my interests shifted towards contemporary pop and classical music, leading to a style that blends various genres.

One thing that sets my music apart is my tendency to add a jazzy twist to most pieces I play. Whether it’s classical, pop, or traditional, I always strive to put my unique stamp on each piece.

Over the years, I have had the privilege of performing as a resident musician at renowned hotels in Dublin.
I have also performed internationally, including at festivals and concerts in Australia, Dubai, Italy, and Germany.

More recently, I have had the opportunity to perform aboard major cruise ships, including the Royal Princess and Island Princess, where I have gained invaluable experience in a dynamic, international setting. This role has further strengthened my performance skills, adaptability, and ability to engage with diverse audiences from around the world.

Technical Info

What are your basic technical requirements?

I require a space that contains a socket and enough room for a keyboard and harp. I also require one parking space.

What information do you require about a venue?

I like to know if parking is provided and how many people will be attending each event. I also like to know if there is a set down area to unload the speakers and instruments.

Do you provide sound and lighting equipment?

I bring my own JBL PA system to each event. It consists of two large speakers with many inputs.

Can you provide a Spotify/DJ service before and between your sets?

Yes I have many setlists created for events before, in between and after sets.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the best gig you've ever done and the best venue you've ever worked at?

I played the harp at Croke Park for the welcoming of the Pope to Ireland in 2018. It was incredible as I played for 80,000 people in the stadium.

What's your favourite type of event?

I love to play at corporate events and weddings. I love to learn new requested material for clients.

What's your previous experience and how did you start gigging?

I began my music career performing with a band at O'Connor's Pub Galway, while also gigging at hotels like The Glenlo Abbey Hotel, Galway and The G Hotel. For many years I performed at Dublin’s most renowned hotels, including The Shelbourne Dublin, The Westbury, Dublin, The Intercontinental Hotel, Dublin and The Powerscourt Hotel, Wicklow. My experience also includes playing at countless private functions, drink receptions, and parties.

Which artists have you been most influenced by, who is your favourite artist and what is the greatest song of all time?

I love playing covers of old artists like Whitney Houston, Michael Jackson, Fleetwood Mac. In my opinion I think 'This Will Be' Natalie Cole is one of the greatest songs. I love playing a jazzy version of this on the piano. Brides also love to use this song as their exit piece for the wedding ceremony.

Performance Info

What are your typical setup and performance times?

I typically arrive around 90 minutes before the performance to ensure everything is set up and sound-checked. My usual performance is 2 x 60-minute sets (depending on the evenyt), but I open to different durations depending on the event. I've found this timing works well for keeping the energy up and engaging the crowd.

Are you happy to perform outside?

I am more than happy to perform outside. I thoroughly enjoy playing outside on a lovely day.

Do the clients have a say in what you play or is it a set repertoire list only?

I have a solid setlist that I bring to every performance, but I always encourage client requests! Whether it's songs from my repertoire or something they would like me to play, I'm all about engaging with the audience.

How do previous clients most commonly describe your performances?

Previous clients often describe my performances as professional, consummate, and excellent. They appreciate the seamless mix of my setlist, the ability to take requests on the spot, and how I’m always ready to go above and beyond to make their event truly exceptional.

What makes you different from other performers?

My versatility and commitment to excellence set me apart. Whether it’s playing a specific song on demand, adapting to the crowd, or learning a new tune, I’m dedicated to making every performance a memorable experience. I also put my unique jazzy stamp on each piece that I play.
