About / Biography

Hi, my name is Maurizio Fiore Salas and I am a guitarist and singer of Latin American music.

I am a performer living in Madrid, Spain, and I would love to be a part of your concert/event or album recording!

My repertoire mainly consists of different Latin American musical styles such as: Venezuelan folkloric music, Peruvian waltzes, Argentinian folkloric music, Bolero and Tango.

My performance style combines the elements of folkloric music with Jazz elements such as the harmony and improvisation.

My performance can either be singing and playing, or only instrumental guitar.

Even though I sing exclusively in Spanish, I always make sure to explain and introduce the music I am performing so that audiences can relate and connect to the songs. I prepare translations and share them online with audiences as well, and I love meeting and talking to the audience before and after the concert.

Technical Info

What are your basic technical requirements?

If available, I will ask for a vocal mic, a boom mic stand, 2 XLR cables and 1 guitar cable, and two channels in a mixer, compact PA speaker or acoustic amp. One channel for my vocal mic, and another for my acoustic guitar. Ideally both channels XLR but XLR and 1/4" also work.

What information do you require about a venue?

- Photos of space
- Where do you want me to perform, there must be a power source
- Sound equipment available

Do you provide sound and lighting equipment?

For local gigs or gigs where I can travel by train, I can bring my own acoustic amplifier that has all the inputs I need, but depending on the size of the space I might need additional reinforcement for its volume. Fee can be negotiated per event.

Can you provide a Spotify/DJ service before and between your sets?

No

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the best gig you've ever done and the best venue you've ever worked at?

I think every gig has something to it, but one of my favorite gigs has definitely been accompanying the great Paquito D' Rivera with my friend Juan Ruiz's ensemble in a gala performance at Longy School of Music in Cambridge, MA.
The best venue I have ever worked at might be WBUR CitySpace in Boston, because I really loved the aesthetic of the space and the sound equipment and sound engineers were top-quality.

What's your favourite type of event?

Intimate house concert, where I can see everyone in the audience and the experience can be truly unique based on the repertoire, the stories I tell and the improvisations that are inspired by the audience and the space.

What's your previous experience and how did you start gigging?

I have been a performing musician for the last 8 years of my life, in many different formats and ensembles.

Which artists have you been most influenced by, who is your favourite artist and what is the greatest song of all time?

My most influential artists include: Rubén Blades, Mercedes Sosa, Paco de Lucía, Astor Piazzolla, Fredy Reyna, Charles Mingus, Chick Corea, Miles Davis, Thelonious Monk, etc.

Performance Info

What are your typical setup and performance times?

My setup is very simple, just me on a chair with my guitar and my mic, with the sound system wherever it needs to be.
My performance time is usually two 45 min sets, I find that the break is very useful for audiences and me alike, but I am also happy to perform one continuous set of around 75min.

Are you happy to perform outside?

Yes I can perform outside as long as I can be in a comfortable place (not in the blaring sun or too far from the audience) and have access to the same sound system I would if the event was indoors. My basic premise is, if the audience is comfortable, I can be comfortable, but if it's one or the other it can affect the quality of the performance.

Do the clients have a say in what you play or is it a set repertoire list only?

I am happy to talk to the clients about their preferences and see if they are in my repertoire list.
If not, it would depend if they are songs I feel comfortable learning and performing for them, as I tend to choose my repertoire by paying very close attention to lyrics and content.

How do previous clients most commonly describe your performances?

Intimate and deeply moving, a complete immersion into the song and the spontaneous composition of the performance.
