About / Biography

RICARDO PINTO

Artistic Qualifications
  • 1995 | 1997: Painting, Drawing, and Art History course at Ar.Co.
  • 1998 | 2003: Bachelor’s Degree in Fine Arts at ESTGAD (now ESAD – School of Arts and Design).
Musical Qualifications
  • 2008 | 2011: Bachelor’s Degree in Music – Jazz Program at the Lisbon College of Music (ESML).
  • 2003: Scholarship for Berklee College of Music.
  • 2003: Studied at Hot Club de Portugal, taking lessons with João Moreira, Pedro Madaleno, Ricardo Pinheiro, and Bruno Santos.
  • 1999: Attended the Jazz Seminar in Seville, led by Perico Sambeat, Mike Philip Mossman, Edward Simon, Ben Monder, Adam Cruz, among others. Also participated in the Estoril Jazz Workshop, taught by Hal Galper and Jack Walrath.
  • 1996 | 1998: Attended the "Acorde Comigo" music school, studying under Pedro Madaleno, Mário Delgado, Miguel Gonçalves, Alexandre Dinis, Yuri Daniel, José Menezes, and others.
He participated in Caldas Late Night from 1998 to 2003.
In 2002, he co-founded De Mobius, a project in collaboration with various musicians and visual artists. This collective focused on musical composition combined with Super 8 imagery and participated in numerous institutional events, including museum and gallery exhibitions and music and art festivals. Some of the most notable events include the Capitals exhibition at Gulbenkian and the London Art Biennale, also supported by Gulbenkian.
More recently, since 2021, he has been collaborating with artist and painter Francisco Vidal at Festival do Eminente, as well as events at Palácio dos Carvalhos, MAAT, Galeria Heritage, This is Not a White Cube, among others.
He has played with musicians in various formations, including David Murray, Óscar Graça, Carlos Barreto, Jorge Reis, Nelson Cascais, Ricardo Toscano, Jeffery Davis, Nuno Costa, Victor Zamora, Rui Caetano, Ana Paula Sousa, André Matos, Hugo Antunes, Gonçalo Almeida, Luís Candeias, Johannes Krieger, Mick Trovoada, Orlanda Guilande, Selma Uamusse, Rita Maria, Catarina dos Santos, Diego El Gavi.

​His first and second albums with Sintra Project featured his quintet, including Daniel Hewson, Francesco Valente, Bruno Margalho, Rui Pereira, Luís Barrigas, and André Rosinha.

Currently, his sextet consists of Ricardo Toscano, Bernardo Tinoco, André Rosinha, Óscar Marcelino da Graça, and Luís Candeias.

EMARTE (School of Music and Art) was founded eight years ago and is coordinated by Ricardo Pinto. The project started at the Fábrica do Braço de Prata and later moved to Arroios, Lisbon, maintaining the same teaching staff and a strong commitment to excellence in music and arts education.
Ricardo Pinto is a musician with a solid career, having collaborated with various artists and participated in multiple musical projects. In addition to coordinating EMARTE, he has an active presence in the Portuguese music scene, contributing to the development of new talent and promoting music education.
