About / Biography

Aaron Watson: Saxophonist, Visionary, and Genre-Fusion Innovator

Aaron Watson is more than just a saxophonist—he’s a sonic storyteller and masterful performer who electrifies every stage he graces. Hailing from Tallahassee, Florida, Aaron fuses the vibrant textures of jazz, the raw emotion of soul, and the infectious rhythms of reggae into a signature sound that leaves audiences entranced. Whether leading his band or igniting a crowd as a soloist, Aaron delivers every note with passion, precision, and undeniable groove.

With over 15 years of experience shaping the North Florida music scene, Aaron is not only a dynamic performer but also a meticulous band manager who ensures every show is an unforgettable experience. His leadership and artistry converge as the driving force behind Pharaohs of Funk, one of the region’s most electrifying and genre-defying bands. Aaron’s stage presence and horn mastery have opened doors to collaborations with legends such as George Clinton and Fred Wesley, reinforcing his status as a rising star in the modern jazz-fusion landscape.

A proud alumnus of Florida A&M University with a degree in Jazz Studies, Aaron is now deepening his expertise in arts leadership as a graduate student in Arts Administration at Florida State University. When he’s not lighting up stages, Aaron shapes the next generation of musicians as a dedicated educator at Amos P. Godby High School and through private saxophone lessons, supported by Arnold Montgomery Mouthpieces.

Looking ahead, Aaron’s highly anticipated debut album, "Roots Of Renewal", drops in summer 2025, promising an immersive blend of cultures, genres, and fresh sonic landscapes. Whether you’re a jazz connoisseur, a lover of boundary-pushing music, or someone seeking raw musical energy, Aaron Watson invites you to join him on this journey.

Stay connected and experience the sound of evolution.

Technical Info

What are your basic technical requirements?

We just need a stage that can fit up to 6 musicians (typically 20 feet wide by 16 feet deep). We require at least 2-4 power outlets by the stage and atleast 3-5 parking spaces. The saxophonist would need to set up a wireless mic pack that stays by the soundboard.

What information do you require about a venue?

We would need the address to the venue, the time that sound check is allowed, the sound limit at the venue, and directions to load in our equipment.

Do you provide sound and lighting equipment?

Yes, we provide our own sound equipment and PA System, as well as a simple lighting rig.

Can you provide a Spotify/DJ service before and between your sets?

Yes, we're happy to play music before, between, and after our sets. We can choose the playlist music ourselves, or the client can choose.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the best gig you've ever done and the best venue you've ever worked at?

Playing with George Clinton and Parliament Funkadelic at The Adderley Amphitheatre was an experience that could never be forgotten. Seeing so many happy people, everyone dancing, and the musicians having so much fun will lift your spirit!

What's your favourite type of event?

The goal is to play as many events as possible, but weddings and festivals are absolutely the best! There's always so much happiness and joy being spread, people dancing, and great food.

What's your previous experience and how did you start gigging?

Putting my band together fresh out of high school, I was somewhat familiar with being a gigging musician from playing with my teacher; I just needed experience to develop into a professional. Playing in places like Barbados, Cuba, Vienna, and around the United States has brought more knowledge and wisdom to my life and career as an artist.

Which artists have you been most influenced by, who is your favourite artist and what is the greatest song of all time?

Cannonball Adderley, Herbie Hancock, George Clinton, and Bob Marley has influenced me a lot. I find myself trying to mix genres or incorporating a lot of Caribbean sounds and feelings in my playing.

Performance Info

What are your typical setup and performance times?

Arrival time is usually 2 hours before guests arrive to start set up. The performance portion can last anywhere from 2-4 hours, including guest arrival background music, cocktail hour set, light dinner set, and party sets (this depends on the needs and wants of the client).

Are you happy to perform outside?

Absolutely! We just request a shaded area, a flat surface to perform, and a power supply near the performance area.

Do the clients have a say in what you play or is it a set repertoire list only?

All clients can send in song requests; we just need the requests emailed within 2 weeks of the performance.

How do previous clients most commonly describe your performances?

Our previous clients would describe us as an energetic band that knows how to engage an audience, perform at a high level, whether there's dancing or not, and get people on their feet when it's time to dance.

Do you perform by yourself, with a DJ, or with a live band?

We can supply whatever is affordable for our clients. There are many different options that our clients can choose from as far as music groups.
