About / Biography

I have led groups at venues around the DC area for the past 20 years, including three times headlining at the Blues Alley jazz club in release shows for three of my four CDs. I also have provided music for receptions, weddings, and other events. I know many other musicians in the area and thus can work with clients to provide instrumentation that meets their needs and budget. Styles include straight-ahead jazz, Brazilian jazz, boleros, and more eclectic "world music" such as my current group KEMBER, which blends the Celtic music of my native Brittany with Indian ragas and West African rhythms.

Technical Info

What are your basic technical requirements?

I and my musicians can provide our own amplification. We just need a place to plug in. In colder months, we need a heated space.

What information do you require about a venue?

Directions to find the venue, name and contact info of person onsite who can guide us to performance space.

Do you provide sound and lighting equipment?

Yes for sound. No for lighting.

Can you provide a Spotify/DJ service before and between your sets?

Yes, upon request we can provide recorded music to play during set breaks.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the best gig you've ever done and the best venue you've ever worked at?

Three shows at Blues Alley. The sold-out house concert KEMBER Celtic-Indian fusion band played two weeks ago in Hyattsville, MD, was also a lot of fun and very well received. I have also enjoyed and been honored to contribute to the union of couples and families at weddings.

Which artists have you been most influenced by, who is your favourite artist and what is the greatest song of all time?

Pat Metheny, Gene Bertoncini, Lionel Loueke, Romero Lubambo, Guinga, Alan Stivell, Gwerz

Performance Info

What are your typical setup and performance times?

As a solo performer, I can set up in 15 minutes, but unless the client requests otherwise, I usually arrive 45 minutes. As a band, it would depend on the size of the group, but 90 minutes is typical.

Are you happy to perform outside?

Yes, during warm weather months if shade is provided. If it is raining, we would need to play inside.

Do the clients have a say in what you play or is it a set repertoire list only?

We can learn a couple of requests if given a couple of weeks prior to the event.
