About / Biography

AREÍ is a duo of two voices and Spanish guitar, delivering elegant acoustic performances that blend Latin music, boleros, and international pop. Their sound is intimate, warm, and versatile, perfect for concerts, cultural events, private celebrations, and weddings. If requested, percussion can also be added to enhance the performance, while keeping the focus on the core duo.

AREÍ is a musical project created by Bárbara Gragera and John Lix Feliciano. The duo connects southern Spain and the Caribbean through an expressive acoustic sound built around vocal harmonies and Spanish guitar.

Their music blends pop, boleros, and Latin American repertoire with subtle flamenco and Caribbean influences. The result is a versatile and emotional performance that moves naturally between English-language pop, Latin classics, and original interpretations, creating a warm and engaging atmosphere for audiences.

Bárbara Gragera, a singer from Granada, brings a contemporary melodic style influenced by English-language pop and Latin music. Her voice is warm, expressive, and naturally suited for both intimate acoustic settings and concert performances. In 2024 she joined the project Nuevos Aires, performing with them at CubaDisco 2025, and in 2025 she co-founded AREÍ with guitarist John Lix Feliciano.

John Lix Feliciano, originally from Puerto Rico, is a guitarist whose style reflects both flamenco expression and Caribbean musical heritage. He completed the Master’s Degree in Flamenco Performance at ESMUC in Barcelona in 2016. His album Por Borikén (2023) was selected among the ten best musical productions of the year by the National Foundation for Popular Culture (2023) and later received the International Award at CubaDisco 2025.

Together, AREÍ presents a repertoire that combines original compositions and carefully arranged versions of boleros, Latin songs, and international pop. Each piece highlights the blend of two voices in harmony and the expressive sound of Spanish guitar, creating a distinctive acoustic experience.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the best gig you've ever done and the best venue you've ever worked at?

One of our most memorable performances was for the local municipality of Níjar, where we performed as the opening act for a weekend festival. The concert had a candlelight atmosphere in the town square, creating a very intimate and special setting.

We really connected with the audience, not only through the music but also by speaking between songs and sharing the stories behind them. It was a beautiful experience, and the response from the audience was very warm.

What's your favourite type of event?

We enjoy performing at a wide range of events, including weddings, private celebrations, cultural events, and festivals. Rather than having a single favorite type of event, what matters most to us is the atmosphere and connection with the audience.

Our most memorable performances are those where the audience is engaged, attentive, and open to the experience, allowing the music to create a meaningful and shared moment.

What's your previous experience and how did you start gigging?

Individually, we both bring solid performance experience to the project. John has been performing for over 12 years, while Bárbara has been gigging for the past two. As a duo, AREÍ has been performing together for over a year.

We started gigging as AREÍ by bringing together our individual musical backgrounds and discovering a strong artistic connection. The response from audiences has been very positive, and after many performances people often ask how long we’ve been playing together, which reflects the natural chemistry we share on stage.

Our combined experience allows us to create performances that feel both polished and genuine, and we continue to grow as a duo with each concert.

Which artists have you been most influenced by, who is your favourite artist and what is the greatest song of all time?

Our influences come from a wide range of artists and genres, reflecting our different musical backgrounds. Rather than having a single favorite artist or song, we draw inspiration from many sources.

John, originally from Puerto Rico, has been influenced by salsa artists such as Ismael Rivera and El Gran Combo de Puerto Rico, as well as flamenco guitarists like Paco de Lucía, Vicente Amigo, and Tomatito. He is also inspired by artists such as Alain Pérez and is a big fan of The Beatles.

Bárbara’s influences come more from pop and contemporary vocal music, with artists like Rihanna, Ed Sheeran, and Tori Kelly shaping her vocal style and musical approach.

This blend of influences allows AREÍ to create a sound that is diverse, personal, and rooted in different musical traditions.

Performance Info

What are your typical setup and performance times?

Our setup time typically ranges from 1 to 2 hours before the performance, depending on whether we provide our own sound equipment or use the venue’s system. We are flexible and can adjust our arrival time based on the client’s needs; any additional time requested is taken into account when planning the booking.

Our performance time usually ranges from 1 to 2 hours. For longer performances (90 minutes to 2 hours), we typically divide the set into two parts with a short break, although we are happy to adapt the format to suit the event.

Are you happy to perform outside?

Yes, we are happy to perform outdoors. We simply require suitable conditions to ensure the quality of the performance, including shade or cover when needed, appropriate weather (not extreme heat, cold, or wind), and a flat, stable performance area.

Access to a nearby power source is also necessary for our equipment. We’re happy to coordinate with the client or venue in advance to make sure everything is properly arranged.

Do the clients have a say in what you play or is it a set repertoire list only?

We have a carefully curated repertoire that reflects our style and sound, which is usually what clients book us for. However, we are happy to take requests and can learn specific songs in advance if they suit our format.

We always review requests beforehand and let the client know if they can be included, ensuring that everything fits naturally within our performance.

How do previous clients most commonly describe your performances?

Clients often describe our performances as intimate, emotional, and highly engaging. They appreciate the connection we create with the audience, both through the music and the interaction between songs.

Our sound is also very versatile — we can move from soft, expressive pieces to more rhythmic and danceable songs, creating a dynamic experience that keeps the audience involved throughout.
