For Ara Arakelyan (born in 1991 in Yerevan, Armenia) music has always been a way of life. He started taking music classes at the age of five and his first instrument was the piano.
At age thirteen, he started learning saxophone and eventually graduated with Honours from the special Music School Sayat-Nova for Gifted Children. From there, he entered the Komitas State Conservatory, where he received his B. A. and M.A. in Wind Instruments with specialization in Classical Saxophone.
During the six years of musical university, Ara simultaneously took classical guitar and drum classes at the same music school named after “Sayat-Nova”, where he started teaching himself from the year of 2011-2013.
In the period of 2005 – 2012, Ara performed more than eighty solo and collaborative recitals and participated in eight international Competitions & Festivals in Armenia, Germany, Sweden, USA, Georgia, and Egypt. He is a Laureate of the “Golden Note” Amateur Arts Festival, “Renaissance” International Competition, VI Youth Delphic Games among CIS countries and the Kavkaz Jazz Fest. As of now, Ara has already recorded one CD album and three DVD albums.
Since 2010, Ara has worked mainly as a performer, the lead Saxophonist of the Armenian National Symphonic Orchestra, and pedagogue at various teaching levels including music schools and colleges.
He was also a soloist at the Armenian National Academic Theatre of Opera and Ballet from 2011 – 2013 .
In 2013 Ara moved to Canada where he continued his studies taking Jazz Performance at Humber College. While specializing in Jazz performance with Saxophone and Piano, Ara continued taking guitar and drum classes from the world known musicians.
In 2016, Ara completed a one year music program at York university.
Ara has started a very successful career and ran a very busy studio as a performer and pedagogue at various teaching levels - music schools, conservatories and colleges.
In the period of 2013-2023 Ara has been performing with various companies, bands and orchestras, as well as organising his own musical projects.
In the period of 2016-2019 Ara represented 7 concerts of his own organization which had different styles including "Concert of Hope" - a fundraising concert for a girl, who was suffering from a mixture of rare diseases in Armenia, "Dialogue" - An evening of classical music,"Astor Piazzolla" - An Evening of Argentinian Tangos,"Armenia meets Dominicana"- Fusion Folk Jazz, "Armenia meets Cuba" - Jazz Concert, mixture of two different cultures, "Old New Armenia" -a classical-traditional concert, "Armenian Jazz Night" - an evening of Armenian Jazz.
Ara has a big experience as an entartainer as well. Playing at weddings, corporate events and festivals.
Ara is open to many musical styles, such as, Jazz, Pop, Rock, House, Jamming with a DJ, Classical music, Reggae and many more.
In January 2023, Ara moved to Germany, Senftenberg and started teaching at a local music school immidiately.
Currently he is looking for opportunities to be performing more in Germany as well as abroad.
