Technical Info

What are your basic technical requirements?

Minimium requirements are a clean, dry, and adequately lit performance area of at least 3 x 5 meters. Indoor or sheltered outdoor spaces are preferred, especially for string instruments and electronics. We require 2 x 13 amp power sockets and 2 parking spaces.

What information do you require about a venue?

Please provide any address or Eircode directions that will help us find the venue and which entrance to load in our equipment.

Do you provide sound and lighting equipment?

We can bring our own small PA system and mixer, and are also happy to work with on-site technical setups, just let us know in advance what to expect. Lighting is available for an additional fee.

Can you provide a Spotify/DJ service before and between your sets?

Yes, we’re happy to play music from Spotify before, after and between our sets. We’re happy to choose the music ourselves or let the client choose the music.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the best gig you've ever done and the best venue you've ever worked at?

I once played violin for a 4-show weekend run of the Haunted Dinner Party in San Francisco wearing a full head and shoulders latex Freddy Kreuger mask and claw. It was a challenge to hold my bow and play properly but it was oh SO much fun!!!

The best venue I've worked in recently is Dolan's Warehouse. The hospitality and green room experience was second to none, and the sound quality there is phenomenal!

What's your favourite type of event?

I enjoy all sorts of events, but I especially love playing for holiday events, people are so happy and festive and it's even better with costumes!

What's your previous experience and how did you start gigging?

I began performing during my school days, attending open mics and was asked to open for a local bar band. In college I studied all different styles of music, seeking to broaden my horizons. In 2013 I was hired to play my first wedding gig and they encouraged me to play an eclectic assortment of classical, pop, folk, jazz and world music on violin and guitar. Since then I've played in various outfits from orchestras, to reggae and jazz ensembles, and performed for hundreds of weddings, parties and events across North America and Europe.

Which artists have you been most influenced by, who is your favourite artist and what is the greatest song of all time?

When I was growing up my parents introduced me to Sting and Cat Stevens. I spent many hours singing along to "The First Cut Is The Deepest" in my room. When I discovered the music of Damien Rice, I went really deep into that introspective style of songwriting. Radiohead then became my favourite band for their experimental electronics and angular guitars. Since then I've been inspired by a myriad of other eclectic acts from Cirque du Soleil to Marvin Gaye, NIN to Nina Simone, all with a certain soaring melancholy and cathartic groovy-ness about them. It'd be impossible to say what the greatest song of all time is, but one for the ages would have to be a McCartney song: "Blackbird" or "Yesterday"

Performance Info

What are your typical setup and performance times?

Depending on the size of the band and gig, we arrive 1 - 2 hours before the performance to set up. We play 2 x 45 - 60 minute sets with a short break in between. These times are flexible and merely a guideline for what often works best.

Are you happy to perform outside?

We’re happy to play outside but we ask for shelter, heat lamps, light, a level performance area and a power supply close by.

Do the clients have a say in what you play or is it a set repertoire list only?

We are happy to learn special songs before the event but we usually limit this to between 3 - 5 songs depending on complexity. Clients are welcome to pick a set list from our repertoire or let us choose the music for them. If booking a seasonal or themed performance (e.g. St. Patrick’s Day fiddle set, Christmas party, or wedding reception), Ayden is happy to curate a custom setlist or collaborate on timing, pacing, and atmosphere.
