Edward Katherine is a highly skilled and experienced pianist based in London/Bristol. He is accomplished across the whole musical spectrum – from jazz, through pop, rock, and soul, to classical – available for hire for weddings, parties, corporate events, and recording sessions. With hundreds of songs in his repertoire, he can enhance the ambiance of any occasion with his rich and melodic playing.
Ed has ten years' professional experience playing solo and in groups for private events, accompanying singers, and recording music for artists, songwriters, and producers. He specialises in playing jazz standards and pop songs from the 1960s and 1970s but offers a set list spanning the decades up to the present day and is always be happy to learn request songs.
Ed holds an ATCL classical piano diploma with distinction, a first-class BA in Music from the University of Oxford, and an MA with distinction from the Royal Academy of Music specialising in jazz piano.
Ed would love to hear from you about playing for your event. He can tailor his setlist according to the style and mood of the occasion, and he can learn one or several request songs. He can provide his own Nord keyboard and amplification or use a piano at the venue. He can also offer various ensemble line-ups if you would like to add bass, drums, sax, and/or vocals. Playing piano with a jazz orchestra at one of London's premier jazz venues -- Pizza Express in Soho -- was a special experience!
I love playing for all sorts of events from providing mellow background jazz for dinner parties through to playing uplifting music for wedding ceremonies and drinks receptions. I always want my music to make a difference and enhance the event, whether the client is looking for a relaxing evening among friends or upbeat songs to celebrate a special occasion!
I've been performing music since I formed my own band in my teenage years and have never looked back! I gigged as a solo musician and in bands during my university studies and have been working as a professional musician for the last ten years.
I play music from across all decades but especially love a lot of music from the 1960s and 1970s -- a real golden age for songwriting -- which is why you can see a lot of The Beatles, Burt Bacharach, Van Morrison, Elton John, Motown, and Stevie Wonder represented on my repertoire list. My very personal choice for favourite song of all time would be 'What A Fool Believes' by the Doobie Brothers: a truly unique song.
I typically require 20 to 30 minutes to set up and normally perform two or three 45-minute sets depending on the event length and the client's requirements. That said, I'm always happy to customise performance times.
Yes, I am happy to perform outside.
