Technical Info

What are your basic technical requirements?

We require a performance space suitable for a duo, with 2 chairs and enough space for violin and qanun. We require a suitable sound system/PA with 2 microphone or instrument inputs, and 2 power sockets. We would also appreciate 1–2 parking spaces close to the venue for loading and unloading our instruments.

What information do you require about a venue?

We would need clear directions to the venue, information about parking and the easiest access point for loading and unloading our instruments. Please also let us know about any sound restrictions or sound limiter in the venue, as well as the available performance area and sound system.

Do you provide sound and lighting equipment?

We do not provide a full sound system. We require the venue to provide a suitable PA system and microphones/instrument inputs for violin and qanun. Basic stage/performance lighting would also be appreciated.

Can you provide a Spotify/DJ service before and between your sets?

We do not currently provide a Spotify/DJ service before or between our sets. The venue or event organiser would need to provide background music during those times. We are happy to coordinate our set timings with the venue’s music arrangements.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the best gig you've ever done and the best venue you've ever worked at?

One of our most memorable gigs was performing Arabic and Emirati music for a special private event, where the combination of violin and qanun created a beautiful and authentic atmosphere. We particularly enjoy performing at elegant venues and cultural events where the audience appreciates live Middle Eastern music. Our favourite venues are those with a great atmosphere, good acoustics, and a welcoming professional team.

What's your favourite type of event?

Our favourite events are weddings, private celebrations, cultural events, and luxury corporate events. We especially enjoy occasions where we can create an elegant and authentic Arabic atmosphere with a mix of traditional and contemporary Arabic and Emirati music.

What's your previous experience and how did you start gigging?

We are an Arabic and Emirati music duo featuring violin and qanun. We have experience performing at weddings, private celebrations, cultural events, and corporate functions, creating an elegant and authentic Middle Eastern atmosphere. We started gigging through live performances at private and community events, and our passion for Arabic and Emirati music has led us to perform for a wide range of audiences and occasions.

Which artists have you been most influenced by, who is your favourite artist and what is the greatest song of all time?

Hussain Al Jassmi transformed regional Emirati heritage into a Pan-Arab phenomenon, spanning massive viral hits like "Boshret Kheir" and soulful ballads like "Ahebak", whose rich melodies and Gulf rhythms adapt seamlessly to the dynamic dialogue of violin and qanun.

Performance Info

What are your typical setup and performance times?

An amplified violin and qanun duo typically requires 30 to 45 minutes for setup and precision microtonal soundcheck, while a purely acoustic performance takes only 15 to 20 minutes. Standard live gigs run as two 45-minute sets with a 15-minute break for background or reception events, or one continuous 60 to 75-minute set for formal concerts. This flexible timing ensures optimal string thermal stability, balanced acoustics, and seamless audience engagement throughout the performance.

Are you happy to perform outside?

Yes, outdoor performances are wonderful, provided the instruments are protected from direct sunlight, severe heat, and humidity to preserve string tuning and acoustic integrity. Having a shaded area or covered stage alongside flat seating ensures the qanun stays thermally stable and both stringed instruments sound their best. With proper weather coverage and sound amplification adjustments for open air, outdoor events create a fantastic atmosphere for live Arabic and Emirati music.

Do the clients have a say in what you play or is it a set repertoire list only?

Clients absolutely have a say, as most duos blend a core repertoire of proven Arabic and Emirati classics with custom requests tailored to the event's specific mood. While having a pre-set list ensures a seamless, high-quality flow, allowing clients to pick key entrance or feature songs keeps the performance personal and memorable. As long as custom requests are shared in advance so the violin and qanun can arrange and rehearse the maqam transitions, client input is always welcome.

How do previous clients most commonly describe your performances?

Clients most commonly describe the performance as an enchanting blend of authentic cultural heritage and modern elegance, highlighting the mesmerizing dialogue between the violin and qanun. They frequently praise the duo's ability to set a sophisticated, warm atmosphere while seamlessly adapting the volume and energy to suit the room. Many also note how guests are deeply moved by the rich, emotive tarab melodies and the impressive mastery of traditional Emirati and Arabic classics.
