About / Biography

Gone Country – The Alan Jackson Tribute

Gone Country is a Dallas-based, 8-piece tribute to Alan Jackson, built to headline. We play the songs fans know by heart, from the #1 hits to the deep cuts, with the fiddle, steel guitar and mandolin that make real traditional country sound the way it should.

No modern country, no shortcuts. Just the honky-tonk, the ballads and the sing-alongs, played live by a full band that cares about getting every lick right.

Where we play: Concert venues, dance halls, theaters, casinos, festivals, fairs and select private events across Texas, Oklahoma and beyond.

The show: A 2-hour, family-friendly set of Alan Jackson's music, with a few classic country favorites available on request.

Production: We can bring our own full PA, stage lighting and truss rig, or work with your house system.

Technical Info

What are your basic technical requirements?

Gone Country is an 8-piece band (drums, fiddle, steel guitar, piano, guitar, vocals, bass and mandolin), so we need a stage area of roughly 24 ft x 16 ft. We ask for at least four dedicated 20-amp circuits near the stage, plus parking for about 6 vehicles, including room for an equipment trailer close to the load-in door. We'll need about 90 minutes for load-in and sound check before doors open. Require a green room with non alcoholic beverages

What information do you require about a venue?

Please send the venue address, the best load-in entrance and where to park the trailer, load-in and show times, venue capacity, stage dimensions, and whether there's an in-house sound engineer or PA. We'd also like to know about any volume or curfew limits, green room availability, band meals and drinks, and hotel details for out-of-town dates. Payment details

Do you provide sound and lighting equipment?

Yes. We can bring a full production package — our own digital-mixer PA, in-ear monitors, stage lighting and truss — for an additional fee, so we can perform anywhere without relying on house gear. Please note that we do not provide a stage. If your venue has its own production and engineer, we prefer to work with that instead.

Can you provide a Spotify/DJ service before and between your sets?

Yes. We can play background music through our PA before the show, during breaks and after we finish. We usually keep it classic country to match the evening, but we're happy to play a client's playlist if you'd prefer. Additional charge if DJ required

What makes Gone Country different from other tribute bands?

We play true, traditional country exactly the way Alan recorded it, with fiddle, steel guitar and mandolin on stage. Our musicians average over 30 years of experience, and our frontman's baritone is a natural match for Alan's voice. We've even performed at Alan Jackson's Nashville estate.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the best gig you've ever done and the best venue you've ever worked at?

Career highlights include performing a Fourth of July show at Alan Jackson's Nashville estate and taking the stage at the Fort Worth Stock Show & Rodeo. Closer to home, you can catch us at two of North Texas's best live-music rooms: Granbury Live, Southern Junction in Royse City and Lava Cantina in The Colony.

What's your favourite type of event?

Festivals, corporate events and weddings are some of our favorite shows to play. Alan's music is clean, family-friendly country that every generation can enjoy, so these events bring out the whole family, not just the grown-ups. Nothing beats looking out from the stage and seeing little kids dancing right alongside their parents and grandparents.

What's your previous experience and how did you start gigging?

Most of Gone Country's members bring more than 30 years of experience, and several have spent decades on the road bringing true country music to crowds across the nation. The band itself was born in 2022, coming out of the COVID shutdown, as the brainchild of David Simpson, our chicken-pickin' guitar extraordinaire.
David and frontman Scott Jones had played the Texas country scene together for years when they decided to keep that traditional sound alive with a tribute to one of the genre's greatest. Scott's rich baritone is a natural match for Alan Jackson's voice, and with the hat and sunglasses on, he even looks the part from a distance.
With Alan stepping back from touring and very few bands paying tribute to the country legend, starting Gone Country was a no-brainer.

Which artists have you been most influenced by, who is your favourite artist and what is the greatest song of all time?

Our favorite artist is easy: Alan Jackson. But we love him for the same reason he became a legend — he carried the torch for the country greats who came before him. Hank Williams, George Jones, Merle Haggard and Gene Watson shaped Alan's sound, and they shaped ours too. That's why our fiddle, steel guitar and mandolin keep the show rooted in true, traditional country. As for the greatest song of all time, it's hard to beat George Jones' "He Stopped Loving Her Today," though if you ask our crowd, nothing gets the dance floor going like "Chattahoochee."

Where do you travel to perform?

Based in the Dallas–Fort Worth area, we perform throughout Texas and surrounding border states. We are happy to travel farther for the right event and for out-of-town dates, we simply ask that travel expenses and lodging be included or discussed in advance.

Performance Info

What are your typical setup and performance times?

We arrive at the scheduled load-in time and have our sound check finished within 90 minutes. If a meal is provided, we'll eat and then get ready for the show. We perform either a 90-minute or 2-hour set, straight through with no breaks, depending on the contract. And if the crowd is calling for more at the end of the night, we're always happy to play a few extra songs, as long as the venue's schedule allows.

Are you happy to perform outside?

Absolutely, we love playing outdoors! We just ask for a covered stage to protect the band and our equipment from sun and rain, along with reliable power close to the performance area. Texas summers and winters can be rough on both musicians and audiences, so spring and fall are our favorite seasons for outdoor shows. For summer dates, evening start times keep everyone, on stage and off, a lot more comfortable.

Do the clients have a say in what you play or is it a set repertoire list only?

As an Alan Jackson tribute, our show is built around Alan's music. Beyond our standard set list, we know many more of his songs, so we're glad to take requests from his catalog whenever possible. We also play other classic country favorites, and while we keep the focus on Alan, we can work a few of those into the night when it fits the event. If you'd like us to learn a song that isn't already in our repertoire, we're happy to discuss it; new song requests carry an additional fee.

How do previous clients most commonly describe your performances?

Clients most often tell us it felt like seeing the real thing. In fact, Dorothy Shackleford, Blake Shelton's mother, told us we're the best tribute band she has ever seen, after a show at Blake’s venue Ol Red in Tishamingo OK. With all eight musicians on stage, including fiddle, steel guitar and mandolin, the show is as much fun to watch as it is to hear. Audiences sing along, laugh and even shed a few tears as they relive their own memories through Alan's songs, from the dance-floor fun of "Chattahoochee" to the heartfelt moments of "Remember When" and "Where Were You (When the World Stopped Turning)."

Do you play concert-style shows or just background music?

Gone Country is built for the stage. We're a full 8-piece headline act that delivers a true concert experience, perfect for dance halls, theaters, festivals, fairs, casinos and private events looking for a show, not just background music.
