My name is Herleen Kaur Khalsa, and I’m a UK-based singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist specialising in sitar and Indian classical vocals. Alongside traditional Indian classical music, I also create fusion arrangements, blending traditional sitar and/ or Indian classical vocals with popular western acoustic music (such as timeless tracks like ‘A thousand years’ by Christina Perri or ‘Perfect’ by Ed Sheeran).
While this crossover is a perfect fit for multicultural celebrations, my performance vibe is universally designed for anyone looking for elegant, sophisticated and atmospheric live music to elevate their day. Whether or not they have a connection to Indian culture, my aim is to provide soothing live music that adds warmth, beauty, and a memorable sense of occasion. In the context of weddings, it creates a beautiful, tranquil atmosphere perfect for guest arrivals, walking down the aisle, or drinks receptions.
To make the day truly personal, I offer a bespoke song request service. Couples can choose any Western song that is meaningful to them, and I will create a sitar and/or Indian vocal fusion arrangement exclusively for their wedding.
I will also be accompanied by a Tabla player for the traditional sitar pieces.

We need to know any directions that will help us find the venue and find the right place to load in our equipment. We would also need to know the capacity of the venue.
We can bring our own PA system to the gig but if you have your own PA system then we would rather use that as it saves us having to carry our PA system along with big instruments.
Yes, we’re happy to play music from Spotify before, after and between our sets. We’re happy to choose the music ourselves or let the client choose the music.
The biggest place I've ever performed in is the Guildhall in Southampton in front of over 1000 people and the best venue I've worked at is the Southampton Mela because the sound engineers were really efficient and helpful.
Concerts are my favourite but I love weddings and all other event too.
I started gigging through Southampton and Isle of Wight music Hub's various opportunities and now am starting to contact local venues myself.
I absolutely adore AURORA because she is a big influence in my song writing. In terms of Indian music I am a big fan of Anoushka Shankar because of all her fusion work and my favourite sitar played is Ustad Vilayat Khan Ji.
We normally arrive 1 hour before the performance to set up. The first set for the arrival of the bride, signing of the register and playing whilst guests arrive and leave is 45 mins. The second set for the drinks reception is 1.5 hours, although we can go up to 2 hours (it'll cost a little extra). And the 3rd item is a 30 min evening performance. It is up to the Client to decide which items they would like.
Yes but we ask for a shelter or gazebo as the sitar is a delicate wooden instrument and WILL NOT be played in rain, damp conditions or strong direct sunlight (as mentioned on the terms and conditions)
Yes, I offer a bespoke song arrangement in which they can pick a western song that is meaningful to them and I will custom arrange it into a sitar and/ or Indian vocal fusion.
Previous customers would describe the traditional Indian classical music that I play as calming and the fusion songs as blissful and creative.
