Add a sparkle of magic to your event! ✨
I’m Julia Sophia, an Oxford graduate, published astrology author, tarot reader and psychological and spiritual astrologer, based in Oxford. I offer in-person tarot and astrology readings for your guests, plus workshops for groups who want to learn the craft themselves.
Readings at your event
Your guests can have individual or couple readings. They don’t need any previous experience, because I explain each card in a warm, accessible way that people of all backgrounds enjoy. I can tailor the length and number of readings to suit your event, from short taster readings for a busy ball to longer, more in-depth sessions for an intimate party. I bring my own tarot cards and table decoration, and I’m happy to fit in with your theme or any special requests if we discuss them beforehand.
Workshops
I also teach tarot and astrology workshops at introductory and advanced levels. Participants learn to interpret tarot cards, or to use spiritual and psychological astrology as a tool for self-reflection. I can design sessions around specialised topics to suit your group. I’m the co-author of a book on the astrological outer planets, Uranus, Neptune, & Pluto: The Impact of the Astrological Outer Planets.
Experience
Since 2022 I have read at many University of Oxford balls, including the New College Commemoration Ball, Pembroke Commemoration Ball, Balliol, Lady Margaret Hall, Linacre, Green Templeton and St Cross College Balls, the Saïd Business School MBA Ball and the Oxford African & Caribbean Society Ball. I’ve also read at a corporate party in the Cotswolds, a BBC-covered app launch party in London, and private birthday and engagement parties. I’ve run workshops at St John’s College and Brasenose College Arts Week, and an astrology and Pilates workshop at a yoga retreat in Greece.
Ideal for
Balls, private parties, birthdays, themed parties, engagement parties, company events, conferences, retreats, festivals and carnivals.
Location
I usually work in London, Oxford and the surrounding areas, and can travel further on request. Send me an enquiry through Gig Heaven with your date, venue and number of guests, and I’ll come back to you with my availability and rates.
= areas covered (up to 100 miles)I need a table (most sizes work) and two chairs, one for me and one for the guest, or three if couples are having readings together. Please set them up in a quiet corner or a separate area, away from speakers and the bar, so guests can hear and feel comfortable. Good lighting is important for reading the cards. If the event is outdoors, I’ll need cover from wind and rain, such as a gazebo, marquee or tent. I don’t need a power supply. If there’s parking near the venue, one space would be helpful, but it’s not essential! Thank you.
Please send me the venue’s full address and postcode, and the name and phone number of someone I can contact on the day. Let me know where I’ll be set up, whether that’s indoors or outdoors, and if outdoors, whether there’s cover. Tell me the time you’d like me to arrive and how readings should run. For example, should guests queue at my table or be sent over at set times? I’ll also need to know about parking or the nearest public transport, any dress code or theme so I can match my outfit and table decoration, and roughly how many guests are attending.
No
About 2 metres × 2 metres is enough: room for a small table, two or three chairs, and a short queue of guests. A quieter corner or alcove works best, so guests can talk privately. If I bring my fortune-teller tent for an outdoor event, I’ll need about 3 metres × 3 metres of flat ground.
My most memorable gig was an astrology workshop at a Pilates and yoga retreat on the Greek island of Lefkada! The retreat centre was absolutely stunning, with mountain views, a pool overlooking the hills, and evenings on a balcony above the lake as the sun went down. Teaching astrology to a lovely group of women in such a magical setting, and getting to travel for my work, was a dream come true.
I love all kinds of events, but Oxford college balls have a special place in my heart. The atmosphere is magical, everyone is dressed up and in high spirits, and there’s always a queue of excited guests waiting to find out what the cards have in store for them!
I started reading tarot for friends and fellow students during my postgraduate studies at Oxford. My first event was a ball at my own college, and it was such a success that I started getting booked for other college balls. From there it grew into my profession. Since then I’ve read at more than a dozen Oxford college balls, private and corporate parties in London and the Cotswolds, and a BBC-covered launch event. I also teach tarot and astrology workshops, and I have published a book on astrology, available in all major bookstores UK/US bookstores!
I’m both a tarot reader and a trained astrologer, and I have published a book on astrology (available at Waterstones, Blackwell's and Amazon) so my readings are grounded in real knowledge, not just party tricks. I’m also an Oxford graduate, and I’ve become a regular at Oxford college balls, so I know how to work with large, lively crowds as well as intimate gatherings. I'm highly flexible and adapt my gig according to your needs, and I’m never a “doom and gloom” reader: every reading is warm, fun and leaves people smiling and excited for what's to come!
I arrive 15 to 30 minutes before readings start to set up my table and decoration. I then read continuously for the booked time, usually 2–4 hours. For bookings over 3 hours, I take a short 10-minute break around halfway through. Workshops need about 15 minutes of setup and typically run for 2–3 hours, with a short break in longer sessions. I’m happy to fit around your event schedule, for example reading during the drinks reception or in the evening.
Yes, I’ve read at many outdoor events, including college balls and garden parties. I need cover from rain, wind and strong sun, such as a gazebo, marquee or tent, plus a level surface for the table. Wind can blow the cards away, so a sheltered spot is important.
Clients describe me as kind, professional and reliable, and guests often say their readings felt surprisingly accurate and insightful. I’ve run into clients months later who told me their reading came true, which is always fun! Many say it was the highlight of their evening and something everyone was talking about. I’m not a “doom and gloom” reader, so my readings are warm, fun and positive, so even people who have never had a tarot reading before feel completely at ease.
Yes. I can adjust reading length to suit the number of guests, from quick 5-minute readings at busy balls to longer readings at intimate parties. I can offer couple readings at engagement parties and weddings, and match my outfit and table decoration to your theme. Workshops can be designed around your group’s level and interests, from a fun introduction to tarot to specialised topics in astrology.
Not at all! Many of my guests are sceptics, and they often enjoy it the most. Readings are a fun, thought-provoking experience, and everyone is welcome, whether they’re believers, curious or just there for a laugh.
In tarot, the Death card almost never means physical death. It usually means change, endings and new beginnings. I explain every card in a positive, reassuring way, so nobody leaves my table worried.
Yes, I keep readings light-hearted and age-appropriate, so they work well for family events as well as adult parties. Tell me who your guests are when you book, and I’ll adjust my style to suit them.
