About / Biography

I’m Lorenzo Marte, a magician and actor with almost twenty years on stage and screen. I perform close-up magic at the tables, in English and Italian: no stage, no technical setup, no interruption to your event. I move among your guests during the aperitivo and dinner, and fill the quiet moments with wonder, laughter and a touch of theatre.

My signature is the Magic Menu, a format I created: guests choose from a menu on their phone, just like at a restaurant, the magic they want to see at their table. Every table lives a different evening.

I’ve performed at the Vatican for Pope Francis’s birthday, at the St. Regis Rome and at A.S. Roma’s Christmas party. As an actor I’ve worked with Paolo Sorrentino and Sabina Guzzanti.

Formats

  • Classic. Close-up magic at the tables or during the aperitivo, with the Magic Menu. About 1.5 hours, up to 70 guests.
  • Silver. Close-up at the tables, plus a 20-minute show for all guests, with the hosts at the centre of the finale.
  • Signature. A fully bespoke evening, from the aperitivo to the final applause, with tailored effects and a 60-second video of the night.

Perfect for weddings, gala dinners, corporate events, hotel receptions and private parties. Based in Rome, available throughout Italy.

Technical Info

What are your basic technical requirements?

For close-up magic, nothing at all: no stage, no power, no setup. I simply arrive, introduce myself to the host and start mingling with the guests. For the 20-minute show in the Silver format I need a wireless or headset microphone connected to the venue’s sound system, and a spot where everyone can see me.

What information do you require about a venue?

The timing of the evening (welcome drinks, dinner, speeches), the number of guests and tables, whether guests will be seated or standing, and the main language spoken. It also helps to know about parking or loading access and the dress code, so I can match the style of the event.

Do you provide sound and lighting equipment?

Close-up magic needs no equipment. For the stage show I normally use the venue’s microphone and PA. For smaller rooms I can bring my own compact sound system: just ask when you enquire. Lighting is not required.

How much space do you need to perform?

None for close-up: I perform right at the tables or among standing guests, a few centimetres from their eyes. For the stage show, a clear area of about 3 x 3 metres in front of the audience is enough.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the best gig you've ever done and the best venue you've ever worked at?

Performing at the Vatican for Pope Francis’s birthday is something I’ll never forget. As for venues, the St. Regis Rome, some Villa's in Tuscany with their breathtaking sunsets.

What's your favourite type of event?

Weddings and elegant dinners, where people sit together around a table. That’s where close-up magic shines: strangers start laughing together, and by dessert every table has its own story to tell.

What's your previous experience and how did you start gigging?

I’ve been performing magic for almost fifteen years, alongside my career as an actor in film, theatre and television. Acting taught me timing, listening and how to read a room, and that’s what I bring to every table.

What makes you different from others offering something similar?

The Magic Menu, a format I created: guests choose from their phone which magic they want to see, just like ordering at a restaurant, so every table lives a different evening. And I’m an actor as well as a magician, so the magic comes with stories, comedy and real emotion.

What is the Magic Menu?

A format I created. At each table I open with a card that bursts into flames and reveals a QR code. Guests scan it and choose from a menu, just like at a restaurant, which magic they want to see: cards, impossible objects or mind reading. Every table lives a different evening, and the guests are part of the show from the very first moment.

Do you perform in English?

Yes. I perform close-up magic and my 20-minute show in both English and Italian, and I can switch from one language to the other from table to table. It’s ideal for international weddings and corporate events with guests from abroad.

Are you a wedding magician in Rome?

Yes, weddings are a big part of my work. As a wedding magician in Rome, I perform close-up magic during the aperitivo while the couple are having their photos taken, and between courses at dinner, so guests never get bored. I work in villas, hotels and countryside venues across Lazio and the rest of Italy.

Performance Info

What are your typical setup and performance times?

Close-up magic needs no setup: I arrive about 30 minutes before I start, to meet the host and get a feel for the room. A typical set is 1.5 hours of magic at the tables or during the aperitivo. For longer events I split my time into rounds of about 40 minutes, so I can follow the rhythm of the evening (welcome drinks, dinner, after dinner). The optional stage show lasts 20 minutes.

Are you happy to perform outside?

Absolutely. Close-up magic works beautifully in gardens, terraces and villa courtyards, and many of my weddings are outdoors. I only need a little shade on very hot days and some light after sunset, so guests can see the magic up close.

How do previous clients most commonly describe your performances?

Elegant, funny and surprisingly personal. With over 40 Google reviews, almost all five stars, clients often mention that I made every guest feel involved, that the magic happened right in their hands, and that people were still talking about it the next day.

Can what you offer be tailored to the event or the audience?

Always. I perform in English or Italian, and I adapt the tone to the audience, from gala dinners to family celebrations. With my Signature format I go further: I create magic around the couple’s story, a company’s brand or the theme of the evening, and the Magic Menu can be customised with your names and colours.

Do you travel outside Rome?

Yes. I’m based in Rome and perform throughout Italy, from Tuscany to the Amalfi Coast, and abroad on request. For events outside Rome, travel and accommodation are agreed in advance.

Can you film the magic for us?

With the Signature format I create a 60-second video of the evening, filmed from my point of view and edited by me. I always ask each table for permission before filming, and anyone can choose not to appear.

What entertainment do you offer for a destination wedding in Italy?

For couples getting married in Italy from abroad, I offer elegant close-up magic in English, with an Italian touch that guests love. It’s entertainment that needs no stage or setup, fits any venue from a Roman villa to a Tuscan estate, and gives guests who don’t know each other something to talk about.

Do you perform at corporate events and gala dinners in Italy?

Yes. I’m often booked as a corporate event magician for gala dinners, Christmas parties, incentive trips and hotel receptions in Rome and across Italy. Close-up magic is a natural ice-breaker: it gets colleagues and clients talking, and it can include the company’s brand or message.

What is close-up magic and why choose it for my event?

Close-up magic happens a few centimetres from the guests’ eyes, often in their own hands. Unlike a stage show, it comes to the guests: I move from table to table or among standing groups, so everyone gets their own moment of wonder. It’s the most elegant way to entertain without interrupting the event.
