Fiorella Camilleri
Flute


Maltese-born flutist Fiorella Camilleri started playing the flute at the age of 14. Since then she has been an active chamber musician with different ensembles playing varied repertoire ranging from the classical to the contemporary, performing in Italy, Malta and Japan respectively. Her latest chamber music achievement led her to Shizuoka and Tokyo, where she led a research project, supported by the Malta Arts Fund, merging Maltese and Japanese traditional music(2017). International cultural diplomacy is a field of study, which she is exploring through chamber music and research based projects.


Fiorella believes in constant personal development through practice and education by participating in masterclasses with principal orchestra players, most recently with Emily Beynon, Paul Edmond Davies, Andreas Blau and Nicola Mazzanti. Fiorella was chosen as an active participant artist at the Aurora International Music Festival in Sweden (2018).

In April 2012, she finished a two year Masters degree, “Biennio Specialistico” in Flute
performance at the ‘Istituto Pareggiato Orazio Vecchi Tonelli’ in Modena, under the guidance of Michele Marasco, Andrea Oliva, and Gabriele Betti.

Fiorella was the winner of the Young Musician Award (2007), which enabled her to follow masterclasses at the Thames Valley University, London College of Music, with flutist Christine Hankin. Furthuremore, she holds both the Associate and the Licenciate Trinity College diplomas (2006-2007). For the past 14 years, Fiorella has been holding the sub principal flute/piccolo chair with the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra. Fiorella plays on a 14K Muramatsu flute and on a Philip Hammig granadilla wooden piccolo.

In addition to her music career Fiorella holds a Bachelor of Arts (Hons) degree in International Relations from the University of Malta (2004).

Joe Debono
Piano

Joe Debono, a classically trained pianist, discovered jazz through his uncle Charles Sciberras, a renowned local jazz drummer. He attended lessons in jazz improvisations at the School of Music (1990-91) tutored by Paul Abela. He furthered his studies at the University of Malta were he obtained a BA in Music Studies (1995- 1998) and later on obtained a Premier Prix at the Conservatoire de Musique de Luxembourg (2009-11). The pinnacle of this formative phase came with Charles City Gatt who served the dual role of mentor and drummer.

His recent collaborations include the ‘South Sound Experience’ which was held at last year’s Malta Jazz Festival along with Stjepko

Gut, Rino Cirinnà, Roberto Occhipinti and Marcello Pellitteri and more recently he played on Carlo Muscat’s project ‘Explorations’. Last year he performed at the CHOGM celebrations in Canada where he played, in collaboration with Sandro Zerafa, with Roberto Occhipinti, Mark Kelso, Jim Doxas and Remi-Jean LeBlanc.

Joe Debono is very active playing with various musicians, at both local and foreign venues. He is currently giving jazz improvisation classes at the Malta School of Music and managing Offbeat music bar.

Giancarlo Palena
Accordion

Giancarlo Palena is a prize-winning Italian Accordion Player which started to study Accordion at the age of 7 with M° Mario Stefano Pietrodarchi. He has performed in Royal Festival Hall in London; Teatro “San Carlo of Naples; Academic Hall of the “Fryderyk Chopin” University of Music in Warsaw; Academic Hall of the Rome’s Conservatory “Santa Cecilia”; Royal Castle of Warsaw; Royal Academy of Music in London, “Italian Institutes of Culture” in Istanbul, Dublin and Bucharest.

In March 2019 he won the 5th edition of the prestigious “The Arts Club – Sir Karl Jenkins Music Award in association with Classic FM 2019”. In May 2015 he was selected as the best Italian candidate to represent Italy at the 68th CIA World Cup, held in Turku (Finland), from 6th to 11th October 2015, obtaining the third prize. Giancarlo has won many other national and international competitions and in June 2016 he received the Medal from the President of the Italian Chamber of Deputies in recognition of the musical talent and his achievements at international level.

In 2017 he graduated at the University of Music “Frédéric Chopin” in Warsaw, Poland, under the direction of M° Klaudiusz Baran. In November 2018 he was a guest of the London Philharmonic Orchestra as part of the Foyle Future Firsts Ensemble’s 2018 debut held in

Southbank Centre, with music written in Theresienstadt concentration camp, by Viktor Ulmann.

He has held numerous concerts in Italy and abroad, performing in Austria, Belgium, England, Finland, Germany, Ireland, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Serbia, Switzerland and Turkey.

Karl Galea
Electric Guitar

Karl Galea is a guitarist active in various music genres including jazz, manouche, swing, funk, soul, and world music. In 2008 he moved to London to study at the Institute of Contemporary Music Performance, earning his Bachelor of Music degree in 2011. He has since continued to work in London and Malta as a music teacher and session guitarist and has performed internationally in London, Paris, Milan, Stockholm, and Istanbul. He is part of the Franco- Maltese nine-piece ensemble Blue Tangerine, with whom he has performed at the Malta Jazz Festival and at the renowned Sunset/Sunside jazz club in Paris. They are set to release their debut album in 2019.

Locally he has worked and recorded with pianist Dominic Galea and performs regularly with various acts, including the manouche jazz group Swing Nuages and other jazz combos. Karl teaches guitar and music at the Malta Society of Arts in Valletta.

Marco Agnetti
Double Bass

Born in 1985 Marco Agnetti started studying the double bass in Terni at “Istituto Superiore di Studi Musicali G. Briccialdi” with Maestro Francesco Fraioli. In 2012 he graduated in the same institute with the exellent votation of 10 Cum Laude and, in 2016, he get the master degree with the votation 110/110.
During his studies, in 2009, he won the audition for the “Orchestra Giovanile Italiana” as a tutti double bass player, where he had the opportunity to study with Maestro Alberto Bocini.

In the following years, he attended some masterclasses with Božo Paradžik and Catalin Rotaru. In 2012 he was a finalist at the International Competition Basseurope Festival in Copenaghen. In 2013 he won a special prize for the
performance of Koussevitzky double bass Concert at “Premio Nazionale delle Arti” in Benevento. In the same year he has been in Tallinn for his Erasmus experience at the Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre where he studied with Maestro Mati Lukk. Moreover, as a student he had the opportunity to join the ERSO National orchestra with the conductor Neeme Yarvi. After the Erasmus experience, he won the audition as a tutti double bass player In the Malta Philarmonic Orchestra, where is still working since 2014.
