Jeff Newman will influence your thoughts. He'll predict what you'll do before you even know you're doing it. He'll even read your mind. He'll fool you badly, and you'll love every minute of it.
Jeff is a Calgary-based corporate mentalist, magician, and entertainer for conferences, galas, fundraisers, banquets, and corporate Christmas and holiday parties across Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, British Columbia, and beyond. Think of mentalism as the grown-up cousin of magic: no cards, no doves, and no top hat. The show is full of mind reading, predictions, and interactions built on your guests' own thoughts and choices. Your guests won't just watch it. The moments happen to the people in the room, for the people in the room.
Jeff has been performing since 2011, in more than 25 countries on 5 continents, for audiences of 30 to 1,000 people. Clients include TD Bank, Shell, Tim Hortons, ATB Financial, Cunard, and Princess Cruises. He's been seen and heard on CBC, CTV, and Global TV, and his theatre shows have won festival awards including Patron's Pick at Orlando Fringe and Best of Venue at Fringe World in Perth.
The show is only half the job. Jeff asks the right questions early. He works with your venue, not around it. He shows up ready. He carries up to $5 million in professional liability insurance, with a certificate available on request.
Jeff is based in Calgary and performs across Western Canada. He grew up in the Edmonton area, debuted his first full-length show at the Edmonton International Fringe in 2014, and performs in Edmonton regularly. He also performs for companies in Red Deer, Lethbridge, Saskatoon, Regina, Winnipeg, Kelowna, Kamloops, Vancouver, and Victoria, and travels across Canada and internationally.
How much does it cost to hire Jeff?
Most corporate bookings run $3,000 to $7,500 CAD, depending on location and scope. Quotes are all-in, covering the performance, travel, GST, and payment fees. Accommodation for out-of-town events is usually the only extra, and anything else is agreed in writing before you book.
Is a mentalist or a magician better for a corporate event?
For an after-dinner show for a professional crowd, mentalism usually works best, because the whole room can follow it and it's built on your guests rather than props. Jeff does both, so you can pair the stage show with close-up magic and mentalism during the cocktail hour.
Is the show a good fit for a corporate Christmas party?
Yes. The holiday season is Jeff's busiest stretch of the year. November and December dates usually book 4 to 12 months ahead, and most other dates 4 to 6 months out.
How big a group can the show handle?
Anywhere from about 20 to 5,000 people, depending on sound and staging. Most corporate bookings fall between 50 and 500 guests.
The show is built for adult audiences. Jeff doesn't perform for kids' events, birthday parties, or bachelor and bachelorette parties.
= free travel (up to 70 miles)
For the stage show, Jeff needs a stage or performance area at least 4.5 m wide by 3 m deep, with steps or easy access between the audience and the stage. Seating should face the stage rather than surround it. House lighting that keeps the audience visible is usually enough, plus room for a projector and screen and a small backstage or storage space to prep. Plan on about 2 hours for load-in and setup.
The venue address and load-in details, the room layout and seating plan, who is running AV on the day, and the event schedule, so the show can be placed after dinner service. Jeff is happy to coordinate directly with your venue or AV team ahead of time.
Jeff brings his own Sennheiser wireless headset microphone, which connects to the venue's sound board, along with his music cues. He can also bring two small tables and a chair if you let him know ahead of time. The venue provides the sound system and basic stage lighting. Any technical needs beyond that are agreed in writing before you book.
A stage area at least 4.5 m wide and 3 m deep for the stage show. Close-up mentalism and magic during a cocktail hour happens right among your guests, so it doesn't need a dedicated space.
A corporate stage show runs 45 to 60 minutes, and theatre or main-attraction shows run about 90 minutes. Allow about 2 hours for load-in and setup. Close-up mentalism and magic can be added during your cocktail hour. The stage show works best after dinner service, not during the meal.
The show is designed for indoor venues, with seating facing the stage and a proper sound system, so outdoor events generally aren't a fit.

Yes. Every show is built around your guests' own thoughts and choices, so it fits the room you have. Jeff can work a guest of honour, a milestone, or a company message into the show, and you can pair the stage show with close-up mentalism and magic during the cocktail hour.
