About / Biography

Obscure Notation is a jazz blues fusion quartet that performs music with a focus on ECM and other jazz artists from the 1960s, 70s, 80’s and 90’s as well as original compositions. The group has played together for over four years. Mike Tetreault plays guitar and holds a Bachelor’s of Music from Berklee College of Music. He has taught guitar and played in various music groups. Steve Tapper plays bass, flute, sax, and EWI; holds a Bachelor of Music from Berklee and a graduate degree in Modern American Music Flute Performance from Longy School at Bard College. Steve has been teaching music for many years and has played in several music groups as well as a solo performer. Harry Castleman plays drums and studied at Berklee. He has played in bands in Boston, Colorado and England, where his group was featured in Rolling Stone. Harry and Mike played together in an ensemble while at Berklee that was directed by Pat Metheny. Mike and Steve studied improvisation with Gary Burton while at Berklee. Shira Moss is a gifted percussionist and holds a BFA from Philadelphia College of Art. Shira has played in several music groups and is an active percussion instructor.
