About / Biography

Nothing captures the relaxed spirit of the islands quite like the sound of live steel pan. The warm, melodic tones instantly create a tropical atmosphere that perfectly complements weddings and celebrations in the Florida Keys.

Chuck Brooker, founder of Pan In Paradise, brings the authentic sound of the steel pan—originating from the islands of Trinidad & Tobago—to elegant weddings and private events throughout the Florida Keys. His performances blend traditional island styles with a wide range of musical influences including calypso, reggae, soca, samba, jazz standards, American classics, and tropical interpretations of popular songs.

Chuck’s unique performance style combines live steel pan with carefully curated backing tracks, creating the rich sound of a full steel band while maintaining the intimacy and elegance ideal for wedding ceremonies, cocktail hours, welcome parties, and rehearsal dinners. Music can be tailored to suit the atmosphere of each event, from subtle background ambiance to more energetic island rhythms.

An accomplished musician, Chuck has performed in more than 25 countries and across the United States, both as a solo performer and in concerts with numerous international artists, including eight legendary Grammy-winning musicians. His performances have been featured at major events and for global organizations including NASA, Coca-Cola, Walt Disney World, the Olympic Games, and the United States Air Force.

Now based in Key West, Chuck is a sought-after performer at many of the Florida Keys’ most beautiful wedding venues, known for creating an authentic island soundtrack that enhances the natural beauty of coastal celebrations.

Pan In Paradise is proudly veteran-owned, fully insured, and dedicated to providing a professional and memorable musical experience for every event.

Wedding Songs

Many couples choose traditional songs for their bridal ceremony because these pieces bring a sense of formality, familiarity, and emotional depth to the moment. Timeless selections like Canon in D or Bridal Chorus carry a feeling of elegance and tradition, adding a touch of classic romance that beautifully marks the significance of the occasion.

At the same time, many modern couples are choosing to personalize their ceremony with contemporary or non-traditional music. Whether it’s a favorite love song, a meaningful lyric, or a melody that tells their unique story, these choices bring warmth and individuality to the celebration. Modern music can beautifully capture the couple’s personality, creating a romantic and memorable atmosphere that feels true to who they are and the love they share.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the best gig you've ever done and the best venue you've ever worked at?

It was an incredible honor and privilege to perform for guests from around the world at the U.S. Embassy in Dubai. Being chosen for this event based on my musicianship and steel drum talent made the experience even more meaningful. Sharing the sound of the islands with such a diverse, international audience was truly unforgettable, and I’m grateful for the opportunity to represent my craft on a global stage.

What's your favourite type of event?

We love performing at all types of events, but weddings will always hold a special place in our hearts. There’s something unforgettable about being part of a day filled with pure joy, celebration, and the kind of energy that only comes when family and friends gather to lift up a couple they love. Wedding guests arrive ready to have a great time, and that excitement makes it so easy to get everyone dancing, smiling, and fully embracing the moment. From the ceremony to the cocktail hour to the reception, creating the soundtrack for a couple’s once-in-a-lifetime day is an honor we never take for granted. Every wedding is unique, every crowd brings its own personality, and being able to add that perfect musical touch is one of the most rewarding parts of what we do.

What's your previous experience and how did you start gigging?

I have brought my musical talents to more than 25 countries and across the US engaging in solo performances and in concerts with numerous international artists including 8 legendary Grammy-winning artists. Which artists have you been most influenced by, who is your favourite artist and what is the greatest song of all time?

As a steel drum performer, I’ve been shaped by a wide range of influential pan players and Caribbean musicians who helped define the instrument’s voice. Legends like Len “Boogsie” Sharpe, Jit Samaroo, Ray Holman, and Professor Philmore have all played a role in inspiring my approach to melody, phrasing, and the emotional power of the steel pan. Their creativity and mastery set the foundation for what modern pan performance can be.

If I had to choose a favorite artist, it would be Len “Boogsie” Sharpe. His originality, fearless musicality, and ability to push the boundaries of the instrument continue to influence me every time I pick up my sticks. He brings a level of passion and innovation to pan that is unmatched.

And for me, the greatest steel pan song of all time is “Pan in A Minor.” It’s a masterpiece—powerful, iconic, and instantly recognizable. The arrangement captures everything I love about the instrument: energy, complexity, and a deep connection to Trinidad’s steelbands.

What makes you different than other steel drum musician choices out there?

Being a local Florida Keys musician means I’m deeply connected to the community I serve. This island chain isn’t just a destination—it’s home, and performing here is how I make my living year-round. While many performers travel down from the mainland and charge high fees, hiring local ensures your wedding supports the people who help keep the Keys’ culture vibrant. It also means you get someone who understands the weather, venues, timing, and flow of a Keys celebration.

What makes me different from other steel drum options is the level of care I bring to every couple. I don’t just show up to play—I tailor the music to your vision, read the energy of your guests, and create the relaxed, tropical atmosphere people come to the Keys for. My focus is professionalism, reliability, and delivering an authentic island sound that feels personal, not packaged.

Performance Info

What are your typical setup and performance times?

I typically arrive 1 1/2 hours before the gig. I usually perform 3 X 50 minute sets on average.

Are you happy to perform outside?

I am happy to play outside but we ask for shade for the instrument, a flat level surface as best possible.

Do the clients have a say in what you play or is it a set repertoire list only?

I am happy to hear the vibe the clients are looking for from background style to get them up and dancing. I can tailor my sets around their wishes.

How do previous clients most commonly describe your performances?

Previous customers would describe us as a high energy group that loves to get the audience on their feet dancing.
