Yes, when needed.
Yes. We often work with our clients to customize a playlist for the set breaks that include genres or material we do not perform. This allows that "special song" or additional musical genre (or vibe shift) to be added to the evening's entertainment and works very well.
Its hard to compare gigs. They are awesome for different reasons! Honestly some of the best nights we had this summer were playing in a cookhouse shack at a local campground to kids on bikes and moms drinking wine in their pajama pants. Beyond fun. We love bringing the party glam wherever we go! ha!
Some highlights from this year:
New Years Eve: Capacity Show in the main lounge at Casino Nova Scotia (immediated book again for this year)
Wedding for 150+ in Fredericton (requiring travel, two night accomodations & expenses) for an AMAZING wedding gang
80s theme Dance at the Lord Nelson Hotel for corporate client
VIP Fundraiser event "Carnival of Colours" in Chester: 250 guests
The Carleton venue in Halifax: award winning venue that brings in dance bands occasionally
The kind of event where people come together to experience joy. We don't play "at" people. We play "with" people.
The last wedding we played, we opened with a warm-up tune from "Dirty Dancing"... Time of my life. The groomsmen had NO idea who we were or what we were going to do that night. They immediatly mobbed the dance floor and started mock swan diving into each other's arms. That crowd hit it hard, from the first note - went full on with us until the hotel closed it down. Bride and groom sang every word to every tune and we ended the night with hugs all around and the parents and grandparents giving 10/10.
We are a five piece band with musicians coming from a variety of music backgrounds, including music degrees from Dal, Jazz from Acadia, pop/cover band experience in a variety of bands, and original singer/songwriter experience.
Rec Room Jams started during the pandemic shut down. We invited 10 friend musicians into our home (when that rule opened up) and started live streaming shows from our rec room with proceeds to the Mental Health Foundation. Everyone was in "different bands" so we called it "Rec Room Jams" - when we started playing live again... we kept the name!
We are a dance band. We play ABBA, and Blondie, and the Bee Gees and Madonna / Micheal Jackson. Sometimes the Talking Heads. The hilarious thing is at the end of a full night on the dance floor, many say "I don't really listen to that kind of music" - hahaha. yeah. We know. We don't listen to ABBA while relaxing at home either. We play amazing and musically challenging / complex compositions from the best writers and producers of all time. In many cases, when we pick up a new tune, it has Nile Rogers in the liner notes somewhere. And Barry Gibb was a genius.
