Ricardo Pinto Quintet – Cinematic Modern Jazz with Retro Soul
Ricardo Pinto is a Portuguese trumpet player with a solid career in jazz, having studied at the Escola Superior de Música de Lisboa (ESML) and attended workshops with internationally renowned musicians such as Perico Sambeat, Mike Mossman, Edward Simon and Ben Monder. He also received a scholarship from Berklee College of Music and has performed with many leading figures of the Portuguese and international jazz scene.
With more than two decades of experience, Ricardo has shared the stage with artists and groups such as Black Mamba, Terrakota, Blasted Mechanism, Catarina dos Santos, Reunion Big Jazz Band, Kumpania Algazarra, Diego El Gavi, among many others. He has recorded three albums as a bandleader – the latest, A Sul (2018), explores the balance between retro jazz aesthetics of the 1960s and a modern, cinematic approach.

Previous Experience & How I Started Gigging
I began my musical journey in Sintra, Portugal, where I studied trumpet and jazz at an early age. I continued my training at the Escola Superior de Música de Lisboa (ESML) and attended masterclasses and workshops with renowned musicians, including Perico Sambeat, Mike Mossman, and Edward Simon.
My first gigs started in local jazz clubs and festivals, gradually expanding to larger venues and collaborations with both Portuguese and international artists. Over the years, I have performed with a variety of ensembles, from quintets to big bands, and participated in studio recordings and live performances with acts such as Black Mamba, Terrakota, and Blasted Mechanism.
With more than two decades of experience, I now lead my own quintet and have released three albums, including A Sul (2018), bringing a blend of retro-inspired 60s jazz and modern cinematic arrangements to live audiences.
