Photo of Cellist Miriam Louise Cox Cellist Miriam Louise Cox "Our father died aged 91 recently and as classical music had been his absolute joy throughout his life, we knew that we had to make it part of his small and very intimate funeral. How lucky (and delighted) we were to find that a professional, Miriam, lives locally and that she would like to be part of this celebration of his long life. Miriam could not have been more helpful or sensitive in helping us to choose and adapt four very special pieces and she played them beautifully, especially as unlike a wedding there was so little time for preparation. We shall never forget the sound of her playing her arrangement for cello of Ralph Vaughan Williams' Five Variants of 'Dives and Lazarus' as my father's coffin was lifted and borne out of the chapel, and continuing to hear it as we followed it to his final resting place. It was the one piece that he had ever mentioned as wishing to include at his funeral, and it meant a huge amount to have it played live by someone who cared very much about her role in the service. He would have loved to have heard it, and who knows, perhaps he did. Our heartfelt thanks, Miriam." Played incredibly at our event and our guests couldn't stop talking about them! We coordinated closely in the run up to the event and they delivered exactly the atmosphere we were looking for. Would 100% recommend!" The music was beautiful, elegant, and created such a romantic atmosphere. Even with a shorter set, they made a big impact and our guests loved it. Professional, talented, and a pleasure to work with — highly recommended!" Based in London, England (21 miles from Sevenoaks) 17th February 2026 Jane - Wedding Photo of Zukira Duo Zukira Duo "Hi Abbie and Gavie, I want to thank you both so much for being absolutely amazing at Ellie and Charlie’s wedding on Sunday. You played so beautifully and created such a wonderful atmosphere. It could not have been more perfect. When I heard you on Radio London, all that time ago, I knew that I wanted you to play at Ellie’s wedding. Well, how right I was. I can’t imagine anything better. I’m only sorry that I didn’t get a chance to have a chat with you on the day. It’s remarkably hectic being mother-of-the-bride! I hope that you were well looked after and managed to get something to eat. The rest of the wedding was equally wonderful and we are all still floating on air. Many thanks again for making the wedding so special." Highest class performer and arranger, thoughtful, generous and extremely talented musician. He made our ceremony unforgettable. Thank you again, Frantisek!" Frequently asked questions

The average cost of hiring cellists is £380, with prices from £140 to £850+. Rates depend on the cellist's experience, performance duration and the style of music required. A solo cello performance can provide elegant background music for ceremonies, dinners and receptions.

Most players list a travel radius on their profile and will go beyond it for a fee covering time and transport. A cello takes up a seat or a boot, so travel is usually by car rather than public transport, which shapes how far is practical. Raising distance early is worth doing, as it affects both the fee and the arrival time the player can commit to.

Most players will take a small number of requests, and a piece written for another instrument can usually be arranged for solo cello. Popular songs work well on the instrument, though a dense arrangement may lose detail when reduced to a single line. Sending the list several weeks ahead leaves time to source or write the arrangement.

Ceremony bookings usually split into arrival music, the processional, something during the signing and the recessional, with the couple choosing at least the processional. Drinks receptions are more relaxed and the choice is often left to the player. Fixing the set points and leaving the rest open is the usual arrangement, and it keeps the planning short.

Many cellists have a versatile repertoire that extends beyond classical music to include popular songs, film scores, jazz and contemporary arrangements. Some cellists use loop pedals and effects to create a fuller, more modern sound. It is worth checking each performer's profile for their repertoire.

Hiring cellists is popular for wedding ceremonies, drinks receptions, corporate events, private dinners and classical concerts. The cello's rich, warm tone creates an elegant atmosphere and works well as both solo background music and as part of a string ensemble.

Most cellists need very little setup: just a chair without arms and enough space to perform comfortably. For larger venues, a microphone or small amplification system may be useful. It is a good idea to confirm any technical needs with the cellist before the event.
