Photo of The James Pitts Band The James Pitts Band "James Pitts runs the gamut from sweet and smooth to uplifting and downright raucous without skipping a beat. He bends strings, works the slide and coaxes notes from the guitar only very accomplished guitarists can create." Based in Hutchinson, Kansas Francis Simon - Blues Tone Magazine Photo of Midnight Magic Band Midnight Magic Band "I brought this band in for their 1st event and they packed the place out and we were doing so good at the bar I asked them to play another hour and they obliged have booked 2 additional dates already. Great live music Midnight Magic definitely is a hit." Based in Omaha, Nebraska 19th September 2026 Julia - Beach House Bar and Grill Photo of Soul Food Band Soul Food Band "These men are the absolute best!! They play old, new and progressive music, R&B, and just an overall great assortment of genre of music" Based in Denver, Colorado Tracy M Mealer-Hernandez - Social Security Administration Photo of Groove 'N Motion Groove 'N Motion "Groove 'N Motion performed for our wedding in August 2021 and they were incredible at every level. GnM had excellent communication, were affordable, were accommodating and understanding, played an amazing and wide-ranging setlist, and rocked with high energy all through the night. Our wedding guests, young and old, have said over and over how much they loved our dance floor and that GnM was the best wedding band they had ever seen. We agree and could not recommend them any higher. Scott, our main point of contact, was very communicative and accommodating, including when we had to reschedule our wedding because of covid. He also had a great ability to give advice and perspective from GnM's significant experience playing weddings and large events while still taking our more specific requests to heart. For example, GnM offered a range of modern and classic songs on a designated setlist but also enabled us to make many of our own requests of favorite songs not on their list. They also allowed us to send family to see them rehearse before we booked them because we at the time lived out of state. And they traveled from Denver to our venue in Salida, CO and were great sports about making the trip. It is important to make clear that GnM is not just a random group of musicians who are occasionally pulled together to play a wedding (like we discovered many commercial wedding bands can be). Groove 'N Motion is a true band with great continuity and a range of talents. It's clear they love playing music together and have fantastic rapport. GnM was amazing during our reception. They have their own sound mixer, who helpfully made sure the music never got too loud for our older guests. They played approx 3.5-4 hours for our reception and kept everyone out on the dance floor. The only problem we had was that so many guests wanted to stay for the music that everyone waited to take the last shuttle home! GnM was also excellent for our ceremony songs (a couple songs for guest seating, processional, and recessional) and provided a nice jazz quartet during our cocktail hour. These guys are talented and have range. Being able to rock a country song that is a family favorite and then soon after play some true funk hits is not something just any band could pull off. GnM did it without any problem. If you want to make sure that you have a wedding band that can perform songs in your setlist for all your guests to enjoy, look no further than Groove 'N Motion. You will not be disappointed." Based in Denver, Colorado Hayden - wedding client Photo of Groove Nation Orchestra Groove Nation Orchestra "Dave and the band were incredible for our wedding. They had the dancefloor packed and jamming the entire time they played. Every song they played sounded great; the overall talent of the band was evident. We would HIGHLY recommend GNO for someone else's wedding, they played a great list and the special dance songs were top notch! Literally dozens of our wedding guests told us that night and the following day how awesome a band they were and how great the party was, and we completely agree! Thanks again to Dave and GNO, you guys helped make our special day even more memorable!" Based in Denver, Colorado Patrick B - Wedding Photo of Face2Face / Lokee Entertainment Face2Face / Lokee Entertainment "The band was organized, professional, and on time. Their high energy and style versatility were impressive, with each singer nailing every genre. They were respectful and a true joy to work with—highly recommended!" Based in St Louis, Missouri Mel Vandevort - Private event

Frequently asked questions

Pricing for funk bands ranges from $190 to $3,550+, with an average of $1,100. The main factors are band size, set duration and the style of funk. Line-ups with horn sections, backing vocalists and percussion tend to cost more than smaller guitar-driven combos.

The funk bands for hire perform funk, soul, disco, R&B and groove-driven music. Many funk bands cover classic hits alongside modern songs, creating a setlist that is focused on tight rhythms, brass hooks and getting the audience dancing.

Hiring funk bands is a popular choice for weddings, corporate parties, birthday celebrations, festivals and any event where a packed dance floor is the goal. Funk music has a broad, cross-generational appeal and is one of the most effective genres for keeping guests on their feet.

The funk bands on Gig Heaven range from compact four-piece groups to larger ensembles with horn sections, backing singers and percussion. A bigger line-up delivers a fuller, more powerful sound, while a smaller band can suit tighter venues and budgets. Many bands offer flexible line-up options.

Most funk bands are self-contained and provide their own PA system, instruments and amplification. For larger venues or outdoor events, additional sound equipment may be needed. It is worth confirming all technical requirements with the band before booking.

Not always. Four and five-piece groups often work without one, leaning on guitar, keys and a strong rhythm section, while the larger acts carry brass as the defining sound. Horns cost more and need more stage, so the question is usually budget and space rather than repertoire.

Volume is manageable in most function rooms, as bands set up smaller and play with lighter dynamics when the space calls for it. Rooms with a noise limiter are the real constraint, particularly for drums and brass, which cannot be turned down the way amplified instruments can. Give the limiter level when enquiring and the band will say whether the booking works.

Most carry a playlist to run through their PA during breaks so the room does not fall quiet. Some will also take a list of tracks to use in those gaps. Where the gap matters, such as during a meal, agree the break times when booking rather than on the night.
