Booking one is closer to booking a soloist with a production element than booking a band.
Violin and saxophone dominate, with percussion the third common option and the occasional harp, keyboard or accordion built the same way. Sets are usually played over a backing track or alongside a DJ, which keeps the music continuous through a reception or a dancefloor slot. The repertoire is ordinary dance and pop material for the most part, and most of the acts are electric violinists or saxophone players performing in light-up costume, so the difference is the presentation rather than the songbook.
Darkness is the requirement. Evening receptions, gala dinners, product launches and late dancefloors are where the effect lands; a daylight ceremony or a brightly lit marquee wastes it entirely. Larger productions often pair the format with LED performers such as dancers, jugglers and stilt walkers for a fully illuminated show. Ask about battery life before confirming, because it decides whether you get one long set or two shorter ones.
Fees run from $280 to $1,750+, with most bookings around $600. The instrument sets the level before the lighting does: saxophone and violin sit at the upper end, percussion lower, and a musician booked with a DJ costs more than either separately.
