A guide to booking

Hire Rock Bands

Rock bands are a reliable choice for live event entertainment, delivering high-energy performances that work across age groups and venue types. Professional rock acts typically perform in 40-45 minute sets with short breaks between, covering two to three hours of live music per booking. Most carry their own sound systems, microphones and backline equipment, so there is little for the venue or client to provide beyond a power supply and adequate stage space.

What Rock Bands Offer

The range within the rock genre is broad. Some groups specialize in a particular era or style, from 1960s and 70s classics through to 90s grunge and contemporary indie rock. Others function as versatile rock cover bands, mixing well-known anthems from across the decades into a single setlist. Many acts can learn specific song requests for first dances or key moments. For events that need variety beyond rock, cover bands offer multi-genre setlists, while classic rock bands focus specifically on the golden era of guitar-driven music. If you want something heavier, heavy metal bands deliver a more intense sound, and alternative bands lean into indie and modern rock styles.

Events Suited to Rock Bands

Wedding receptions are one of the most common bookings for rock groups, particularly for evening entertainment after the meal. Rock acts that can balance slower numbers for early sets with high-energy crowd-fillers later in the night tend to be in highest demand. Corporate events, milestone birthdays, festival-style parties and private celebrations all suit live rock music well. For smaller or more relaxed settings, many rock bands offer reduced lineups or acoustic options. Pairing a rock group with a mobile DJ for breaks and afterparty music is a common approach that keeps the dance floor busy throughout the evening.

Rock Band Hire Rates

Live rock band fees vary based on the number of musicians, performance duration, travel requirements and whether additional production such as lighting is included. Prices currently range from $190 for smaller acts to $2,250+ for established groups with premium equipment and extensive experience. Most bookings average around $650 for a professional rock band offering two to three hours of live music with a quality sound system. Larger bands with five or more members, dedicated sound engineers or themed stage shows will sit at the higher end of that range.

Everyone loved them, and the dance floor was never empty — they had everyone up dancing and created such an incredible atmosphere! They also went above and beyond by capturing some beautiful moments throughout the day, which was such a lovely and unexpected touch. One of my absolute favourites was during our first dance, with the sunset shining through — such a magical moment that we’ll treasure forever. Thank you so much for helping make our day so special and memorable. Frequently asked questions

Pricing for rock bands ranges from $190 to $2,250+, with an average of $650. Rates depend on the number of band members, performance duration and whether the band supplies its own sound and lighting. Rock bands vary from power trios to larger outfits, and the size and production level of the act is the biggest cost factor.

The rock bands for hire cover a broad range of rock music including classic rock, indie rock, alternative, pop rock, hard rock, blues rock and modern rock. Many bands have extensive setlists spanning several decades of rock hits.

Typical bookings for rock bands include weddings, birthday parties, corporate events, festivals, pub and bar gigs and any event where live, guitar-driven music is the focus. Many rock bands can adjust their volume and setlist to suit both intimate venues and larger stages.

Standard performance times for rock bands are two to three hours, typically split into sets with breaks. Rock performances tend to be louder and more energetic than other genres, so it is worth confirming volume levels and any venue restrictions when making an enquiry. Set formats can usually be adjusted to suit the event.

Most rock bands are experienced at adjusting their volume to suit different settings. Many carry equipment that allows them to control sound levels without losing energy. It is a good idea to discuss any venue noise restrictions with the band before booking.

Most rock bands are self-contained and provide their own instruments, amplifiers and PA system. For larger stages or outdoor events, additional sound equipment may be needed. It is advisable to confirm all technical details before booking.
