12 Tribes of Mars takes the basic elements of the Reggae, Ska, and Dub traditions and blasts them into outer space. A closer listen reveals that what might seem familiar at first has a truly unique and eclectic sound. Heavily influenced by the spirit of free improv, the music is as sexy and danceable as it is uncompromisingly gritty. On stage 12 Tribes really cast their spell: time and time again trance inducing acoustic grooves are torn apart by wild improvisations and electronics, before the musicians return to the rhythm as if nothing had ever happened. Concerts are both an intense, trippy listening experience as well as a high energy dance party, ultimately leaving the audience sweaty and wanting for more.
In 2022, tenor saxophone player Andrius Deraviancenko was asked to take part in a SITProductions residency. He invited four other musicians to form 12 Tribes of Mars, and together they recorded the first tracks. All members of 12 Tribes are trained jazz musicians that are most comfortable in the borderland between musical genres. In the past years, the band toured the festival circuit and alternative venues of Amsterdam. Now they are celebrating the release of their first full album, Hidden Sun, on a beautiful 12 inch vinyl.

We played Hidden Sun's release at Bimhuis, part of Intergalactic Night, to a room of 200 people. Watching the dub set land with that crowd is still the best gig we've played.
We're a five-piece reggae/ska/dub/jazz band (12 Tribes of Mars, signed to Dubophonic Records) so we thrive at festivals and club shows where people can move. I also do a lot of children's concerts as a soloist, which is a completely different energy but just as rewarding.
I started as a saxophonist and music teacher, then built up freelance work across bands, kids' concerts, and session gigs in Amsterdam. Now I lead and produce 12 Tribes of Mars (debut album Hidden Sun, out March 2026 on Dubophonic Records), and I also run Foon, an electronics/sax duo signing with Relativistic Records for a cassette EP this September.
Bob Marley, hands down. His influence runs through everything we do with 12 Tribes of Mars, reggae, dub, that mix of political weight and pure groove. Greatest song of all time: "Redemption Song," it says more in three minutes than most albums manage in an hour.
We arrive about 90 minutes before to set up and soundcheck. Standard is 1 x 60-minute set, but we're flexible on length depending on the event.

Clients can request specific songs in advance, we usually cap it at 5. Beyond that, they can pick from our repertoire or leave the set to us.
As a tight, high-energy band that pulls from reggae, dub, and jazz, and gets people dancing without it feeling like a wedding-band set.
