About / Biography

A multi instrumentalist and composer with decades of experience in providing music for all occasions. I have performed in many different venues and occasions including crematoriums, concert halls, opera houses, at restaurant tables, museums and many, many churches. I don't use backing tracks or beatboxes but I do play with amplification if required. Most of all I really enjoy bringing live music to audiences big and small.

Over the years I have been a member of many musical groups including General Union, The William Jones Band, The Welsh Baroque Players and am currently a member of The Arianne String Quartet and The Worried Men of Gower.

I am a trained classical musician with a deep understanding and respect for folk and traditional music having studied Ethnomusicology. In addition to the classical viola, I also studied 20th Century composition and bluegrass and Welsh/English/Scottish/Irish fiddle playing.

Technical Info

What are your basic technical requirements?

I need a performance space of at least 2 meters x 2 meters and 1 parking space. When the booking necessitates a loud volume I require a 13 amp power socket.

What information do you require about a venue?

I need to know any directions that will help me find the venue, the right place to load in any equipment, and what the exact size of the performance space is and whether it is indoors/outdoors, and under cover. I also need to be informed if there’s a sound limiter in the venue.

Do you provide sound and lighting equipment?

Yes, I'm completely self contained, and if required I bring my own PA system to gigs.

Can you provide a Spotify/DJ service before and between your sets?

"Yes, I'm happy to play music from Spotify before, after and between our sets for a suitable fee that reflects the extra time. I'm happy to choose the music myselfs or let the client choose the music."

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the best gig you've ever done and the best venue you've ever worked at?

Best gig is probably performing at St. David's Hall, Cardiff - such a great crowd!

What's your favourite type of event?

Weddings and Party's are my favourite, although I love to play at any type of event where they want live music.

What's your previous experience and how did you start gigging?

I started gigging before I went away to university and my performances developed from there. Since I started I’ve performed at lots and lots of weddings, parties and events across the UK and beyond both as a soloist and as part of other groups and orchestras"

Which artists have you been most influenced by, who is your favourite artist and what is the greatest song of all time?

Stephan Grappeli, Nigel Kennedy - both incredible musicians and I love everything they do.

Performance Info

What are your typical setup and performance times?

I arrive about 50mins before I'm required to play, and it takes me about 15 mins to set up. I usually play up to a maximum of 60 mins for any one set before taking a break, but can be flexible.

Are you happy to perform outside?

I'm more than happy to play outside but I ask for shade, a flat level surface, and cover if there is likely to be rain - I also need a power supply close to the performance area if a PA is required"

Do the clients have a say in what you play or is it a set repertoire list only?

Yes, I'm happy to learn up to 3 special requests by the client

How do previous clients most commonly describe your performances?

Full of energy, passion and good at interacting with the guests.
