My listing covers a variety of possibilities, offering myself as a solo performer, but also duo, trio and larger band acts. Having played Celtic music (mainly Irish) for decades, I have of course gotten to know many other musicians, and it is from this pool of friends that I can pull together an act appropriate for your needs. I do play with a core group of bandmates regularly, and hence could just list our trio here. But over time I've found that the brief for a gig is highly variable, dependant on the needs of the event organiser. It's for this reason that I list myself as a variable act.
I myself play the Irish Uilleann pipes (featured in Riverdance and movies such as The Titanic, RobRoy, Braveheart and The last of the Mohicans) as well as flute and tinwhistle. I can add various different instrumentalists to create an act, but as a general rule of thumb, I play with a fiddle player and guitarist.
The style of music played is Traditional instrumental Celtic tunes, not pub ballads or Irish rock songs etc. If you're not sure what we mean regarding the type of music we play, then we suggest perhaps looking at some Youtube footage. There is a good Youtube channel that showcases a lot of different performances, very much in a similar vein to what we do ourselves. We'll get some of our own footage in the future, but we just wanted to at least get this profile live for now!

Lots of Traditional tunes!
If for a trio (which is my most popular act format), we need a performance space of at least 4 meters x 2.5 meters. If a band on stage rather than an acoustic session, then we obviously require power. We are usually a seated act, but even if some of us stand, the piper still absolutely needs a seat without arms.
Just where to go!
We can provide a small, basic PA system and microphones/stands. If using your own PA system then we require front of house speakers AND at least two foldback speakers. We need 4 microphones/stands, and a guitar lead and channel. SM57 microphones are good if available.
Yes, we’re happy to play music from an iPod before, after and between our sets.
Woodford Folk Festival as part of a band, though some pub gigs have been great fun over the years, especially on St Patrick's day.
I love a good wedding gig, or at a pub or festival with good energy.
approx. 30 years
There are so many great Celtic musicians, but like many people who like this style of music, I'd have to say I'm pretty influenced by the Irish bands Lunasa, The Bothy band, Planxty, Danu, Teada, Altan, Dervish....and more!
We normally arrive half an hour before the performance to set up, but it depends on whether or not we're using a PA System. Generally we'd perform 3 x 1 hour sets, with some 5-10 minute breaks. We’re happy to alter this of course. Some gigs such as a solo funeral gig, will be completely different, but we work that out together in advance.
Outside is fine, though many musical instruments can be affected by the weather, especially pipes! Extremes in the weather are hopefully to be avoided, but things can be done to alleviate this somewhat. Still, if I had to play pipes in direct sunlight on a hot day, things would soon go wrong unfortunately.
We work with the client to come up with music mutually acceptable to us both.
Well sometimes the brief is for hauntingly beautiful music, and at other times it's for rollicking jigs and reels! I think they'd definitely say that we really delivered, whatever the case.
