We need at least a 10x10 ft space to perform as a trio, with at least one good outlet within 20ft. This would include two parking spots. Space and parking can be negotiated per arrangement (solo/duo/trio/quartet/quintet).
We need to know any directions that will help us find the venue and place to load in our equipment. We will also need to know the size of the space we're performing to.so we can bring extra sound reinforcement if needed. If the event is outdoors and there is no shaded area to perform we would need to know so we can plan ahead for that.
Yes, if playing for a larger area/crowd and/or vocals are requested. In most spaces a PA is not necessary for my instrumental groups.
Yes, we can provide this service if requested in advance of the performance date.
My best gig was performing alongside Lonnie Tiburon's "Pretty Big Show" burlesque troupe at the Barrymore Theater. We remained onstage for the whole performance while the troupe interacted with us. After the grand finale, the director proposed to one of the dancers!
I enjoy playing all sorts of events but weddings may be my favorite! Everyone is so happy and looks so great while we get to be the soundtrack for their special day!
My first live performance was a solo tribute to my best friend who had just passed away in a car accident. This was my senior year of high school in the year 2000. From that moment on I knew music was my calling, so I went to school, got some mentors, and eventually switching over to Jazz. I have been leading groups in Madison since 2009.
My list is too large to catalogue here but the late Classical period (Romantic) like Chopin, Debussy, and for Pop music Stevie Wonder, The Beatles, James Taylor, Peter Gabriel. Also Prog Rock bands of the late 60's/70's like Genesis, Yes, and Frank Zappa. For Jazz Duke Ellington, Charlie Parker, Charles Mingus, Miles Davis, and modern guitar giants like Pat Metheny and Julian Lage are all big influences.
We usually arrive an hour before the performance to set up if it's a smaller group. Depending in the type of event and size if the group, we play up to a 1.5 hour set, take a short break, and then another hour or so. We are flexible with performance lengths per the event.
We are happy to play outside but if there is no shaded area we would need to know in advance of the date to make arrangements for that.
We can learn specific songs before the event but we usually limit it to four. We are also happy to provide a song list and clients can choose from that.
Previous clients have often praised our setlists/material for the show, and our attention to dynamics and volume per the event and space.
I am a skilled and experienced soloist and play accompaniment for my bandmates. My soloing approach is smooth and melodic but can also be edgy to create drama for contrast to spice things up!
I started singing in high school and college groups and in bands for a few years following that. I have been blessed with perfect relative pitch, so singing in tune comes natural to me. My biggest challenge with singing is memorizing the lyrics but Jazz has helped me adapt things on the spot!
