= areas covered (up to 400 miles)
= free travel (up to 30 miles)
I do not use a "set in stone" set list.
I prefer to have the freedom to change things up songs I do regularly include originals as well as covers.
Songs include (but are hardly limited to):
Jody and the Kid -- Roy Druskey
From the Bottle to the Bottom -- Kris Kristofferson
The Star of the County Down -- Irish Traditional
Crystal Chandelier -- Charley Pride
It'll be Her -- Johnny Cash
The Battle of New Orleans -- Johnny Horton
Love Light -- Cleve Francis
The Road -- Billy Joe Shaver
Whiskey in the Jar -- Irish Traditional
The Unicorn -- The Irish Rovers
Flesh and Blood -- Johnny Cash
A Daisy a Day -- Bobby Vinton
Jesus Take a Hold -- Merle Haggard
And many more
As a solo acoustic musician, I don't require much. If the venue requires it, I have a 100 watt amplifier, mic, and stand.
Many places at which I play require nothing more than me and my guitar walking around.
Indoors or outdoors, is electric available, what types of songs are they looking for.
Sound, yes. Lighting, no.
No.
The best gig I've ever done was at the restaurant in the lodge at Robbers Cave State Park. People were clapping and singing along -- it was just a great experience.
By far my favorite events are playing at Renaissance festivals and fair, especially interacting with children.
I'd been playing publicly since I was about 14, when I was asked to sing a couple of songs at a big gathering in Texas town I can't remember the name of. Played during my first tour of Germany in a Gasthaus that Kris Kristofferson had played some 20 years before and, like his, mine were regular weekly gigs. After I got out of the service, I put everything on hold for years Now the kids are grown and gone, so I picked up gigs again
Influences are Kris Kristofferson, Johnny Cash, Waylon Jennings, Merle Haggard, Billy Joe Shaver, Marty Robbins, Johnny Horton and many others. I believe that any song that touches you deeply will influence you on some level.
As for the greatest song of all time, I really don't know. Do you mean greatest as in popularity or greatest in melody and lyrics. If the latter, I'd have to say it's "Unchained Melody" by The Righteous Brothers
It depends on the venue. For instance, I have one upcoming gig that will run from 9 p.m. to midnight. A Ren Faire gig starts about 10 a.m. and runs to 6 or 7 p.m. some of that time may be onstage, with breaks in between, or the entire day might be spent singing in the lanes.
I'm more than happy to play outside, but I ask that the equipment is covered and some kind of AC power hookup.
If I can learn a song in the time before a specific gig, I'd be happy to do as well as I can. I'm no lead player, so certain songs are out from the start.
As for set lists, nothing is set in stone. That way if one song bombs, I know to go to a completely different type of song for the next several.
I really don't know. I had one newspaper review that talked about my *rich, baritone voice," and another called me *a Folk singer for Folk singers.
