Flamenco Floreos consists of a dancer soloist, Honey Sturdy, who dances traditional Flamenco "palos" which are distinct musical styles, each characterized by its unique rhythmic pattern, musical tonality, singing style and mood. She uses recorded music to dance to and occasionally incorporates other musicians in her act. She also plays guitar and sings some of her own compositions or cover songs by various folk, classical, rock, and blues artists.

I need a performance space of at least 8 meters by 5 meters, but can manage with a smaller space too. My speaker is a Bluetooth, so do not have to plug in. 1 parking space
I need to know any directions to help me find the venue and the right place to load the equipment.
I would need sound and lighting equipment.
Yes I am happy to play music from Spotify before and after my sets. I can choose the music myself
When speaking with a Flamenco dancer, technical questions should focus on their understanding of the form, including its core elements, specific techniques, and the dancer's personal approach. Key areas to explore include the interplay of "toque" (guitar), "baile" (dance), and "cante" (singing), the nuances of movement like "braceo" (arm movements) and "floreo" (hand movements), and the improvisational aspects of the dance.
I performed at the Calgary Stampede one year for an International Dance Day. There was a large turnout. There was another dancer and guitarist with me and people loved our show.
I love playing at all sorts of events, and have played at a wide variety of events. I think my favourite was the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in 2019. There were entertainers from all over the world, I got to perform at different venues, one of which was at a Comedy Club that was a huge success.
I started gigging after living in Spain and the United Kingdom for around 5 years. I returned to Canada and immediately started gigging with a guitarist at many different venues and festivals. I also had gigs in Granada and Madrid, Spain
I have mostly been influenced by the music I grew up with, a lot of it folk, but also rock, pop, disco, grunge, and classical. We listened to The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, The Who, Queen, Simon and Garfunkel and as well Joan Baez, Bob Dylan, Donovan, and many many other bands. I think Grunge is one of my favourite styles, and Electronic.
I love Flamenco dance as it inspires individuals through its expressive power, emotional depth, and cultural richness. Watching passionate performances, connecting with the music and rhythms, or feeling the dance's transformative potential can spark a desire to learn and express oneself through this art form. The challenging yet rewarding nature of flamenco, combined with its focus on self-expression and community, also draws many to embrace it. As well I loved Flamenco when I first started learning it in 2000 before I embarked on my first trip to Spain. I was sold. It became the most beautiful art form in my eyes and remains that way to this day.
I normally arrive 2 hours before the performance to allow time to set up and change costume if necessary. I normally perform 2 x 45 mintues or 2 60 minutes sets. I am happy to play longer or take requests if I know the song.
Yes, I am happy to perform outside and have done so many times for Festivals in various places, including Calgary.
I can learn specific songs, but it is good to know ahead of time to go over them if possible. I usually will limit that to about 4 songs. The clients are welcome to choose some songs and if they are on Spotify it is helpful.
Previous customers usually like Flamenco music and dance and like to dance or clap along to the music. Sometimes I will show the clients some moves, like a beginner level of a Flamenco choreography, to all ages, which is very popular. Sing a longs are welcome too.
Pioneered by the Roma inhabitants of Andalusia in Southern Spain, flamenco is made up of three main parts: el cante (song), el baile (dance), and el toque (guitar playing). A Flamenco show usually goes for about 2 hours with breaks in between. In Spain, they usually have the "El jaleo" (The shout: a vocal encouragement to the performers (e.g. when the audience shouts phrases like: Ezo!, Arsa!, Olé!, Toma!, Vamo!) which I love.
At Verns I opened for two Metal bands, Boneyard and Hellrazer on May 23, 2025.
At Unison, Kerby, I performed on April 21, 2025. (Aditi Sharma, Manager)
At Memorial Park Library I performed at the Night Market on May 17, 2025. (La Mosca members).
At Chill Kill Studios I recorded on March 3, 2025 (Emre Cords)
