Frequently Asked Questions

What is the best gig you've ever done and the best venue you've ever worked at?

One of our most memorable performances was appearing at **Bratislava Jazz Days**, where we had the privilege of performing just before **Michael Mayo**. Sharing the stage at one of Central Europe's most prestigious jazz festivals was a significant milestone for us and an unforgettable experience.

We've also been fortunate to perform at **Vinterjazz Copenhagen**, as well as at numerous international festivals, luxury hotels, and aboard **AIDA Cruises**. These experiences have helped shape our performance style and reinforced our passion for creating engaging live music in a wide variety of settings.

Among our favourite venues are festivals and intimate jazz clubs where audiences come to truly listen, creating a unique connection between performers and listeners.

What's your favourite type of event?

My favourite events are intimate concerts where the audience comes to listen and connect with the music. Jazz clubs, cultural venues, boutique hotels, wineries, and acoustic festivals provide the perfect atmosphere for our style.

That said, we also enjoy performing at private events, luxury resorts, and cruise ships, where we can create a relaxed, elegant atmosphere. Every venue is different, but our goal is always the same: to make each performance personal, engaging, and memorable.

What's your previous experience and how did you start gigging?

I started performing live in my teens, playing in church bands and local music groups. Over the years, live performance has become the core of my career.

For more than 30 years, I've performed in jazz clubs, festivals, concert halls, hotels, private events, and on cruise ships across Europe. I've worked with a wide range of artists and bands, recorded numerous albums, and gained over 24 months of international cruise ship experience.

Today, with Friends of Asia, we combine all of that experience into an intimate acoustic show featuring fingerstyle guitar, expressive vocals, and carefully crafted arrangements. Every performance is tailored to the audience, whether it's a listening concert, a luxury hotel, a festival, or a private event.

Which artists have you been most influenced by, who is your favourite artist and what is the greatest song of all time?

My musical influences come from many different worlds. As a guitarist, I've been deeply inspired by Tommy Emmanuel, Martin Taylor, Joe Pass, Pat Metheny, John Scofield, and Ralph Towner. I also admire the songwriting and musicianship of Joni Mitchell, Sting, Stevie Wonder, and The Beatles.

It's difficult to choose a single favourite artist, but Pat Metheny has had one of the strongest influences on my musical thinking. His combination of melody, harmony, improvisation, and emotional depth continues to inspire me.

As for the greatest song of all time, I don't believe there is only one. If I had to choose a timeless masterpiece, it would probably be **"Over the Rainbow"**. Its beautiful melody, universal message, and emotional power have transcended generations and musical styles, making it one of the most enduring songs ever written.

Performance Info

What are your typical setup and performance times?

We keep our setup simple and efficient. Our typical setup time is around **10-15 minutes**, with an additional **5 minutes** for a sound check, depending on the venue.

We can perform in several formats to suit the event:

1 × 60-90 minutes
2 × 45 minutes
3 × 40 minutes
Up to 4 hours* of live music with appropriate breaks for restaurants, hotels, and private events.

We provide our own professional sound system for small and medium-sized venues when required, making the technical setup quick and hassle-free for the organizer.

Are you happy to perform outside?

Absolutely. We enjoy performing at outdoor events and have extensive experience playing at festivals, wineries, hotel terraces, gardens, and private celebrations.

Our only requirements are a stable, covered performance area in case of bad weather and access to electricity when amplification is needed. With our compact professional sound system, we can adapt easily to most outdoor venues and create an excellent listening experience.

Do the clients have a say in what you play or is it a set repertoire list only?

We have a carefully selected repertoire, but we're always happy to adapt it to the audience and the occasion. Clients are welcome to let us know their musical preferences in advance, and we'll do our best to include suitable songs whenever possible.

Our repertoire includes jazz standards, soul, pop classics, tasteful acoustic arrangements, and original music. We aim to create the right atmosphere for every event, whether it's relaxed background music, a listening concert, or a more lively performance.

How do previous clients most commonly describe your performances?

Previous clients most often describe our performances as **musical, elegant, and heartfelt**. They appreciate the combination of expressive vocals, virtuoso fingerstyle guitar, and the warm, intimate atmosphere we create.

One venue described us as *"the perfect combination of heartfelt vocals and outstanding guitar accompaniment."* Others frequently mention our professionalism, tasteful repertoire, high musical standard, and our ability to connect with audiences while creating the right atmosphere for each event.

Whether we're performing in a jazz club, a hotel, at a wedding, or on a cruise ship, our goal is always the same: to leave audiences with a memorable musical experience.
