GemStarr has performed at the Waterbomb Worldwide Festival in 2024 in Singapore
My favourite type of event is one where there’s great energy and the crowd is fully in the moment—whether it’s a club night, a beach party, or a private celebration. I love gigs where people come ready to dance and vibe with the music, because that’s when the connection between DJ and crowd really comes alive. Those moments of pure energy and shared rhythm are what I live for behind the decks.
I started my DJ journey in Singapore, where my passion for music and mixing quickly grew into something more serious. After training at Ministry of DJs, I built my foundation in both technical skills and crowd reading. From there, I began playing at private events, bars, and local club nights—gradually building my network and reputation in the scene. Over time, consistent practice, mentorship, and exposure helped me land more gigs and collaborations. Every set taught me something new about energy, flow, and connecting with the crowd, which continues to shape who I am as a DJ today.
I’ve been influenced by a mix of international and local DJs — artists like Calvin Harris, Tiësto, A-Trak, and James Hype really inspire me with their versatility, creativity, and crowd control. I also draw inspiration from Singapore’s own DJ scene, where there’s so much raw talent and energy.
My favourite artist has to be Calvin Harris — his ability to blend genres and create timeless hits always motivates me as both a performer and music lover.
As for the greatest song of all time, I’d say “One More Time” by Daft Punk — it’s a track that never fails to bring people together on the dance floor, no matter the crowd or the year.
My style is all about energy, flow, and connection. I love blending different genres — from house and EDM to hip-hop and open format — to create a journey that keeps the crowd guessing but always moving. A GemStarr set isn’t just about playing tracks; it’s about reading the room, building momentum, and dropping the right song at the right moment to make people lose themselves in the music. I always aim to bring a mix of technical precision and good vibes, so every set feels fresh, spontaneous, and unforgettable.
I normally arrive 2 hours before the performance to set up. We normally perform 2 - 3 hr sets at events and up to 1.5 hrs in clubs
I am happy to play outside but we ask for shade, a flat level surface and a power supply close to the performance area with a cooling fan
I can learn specific songs before the event but we usually limit this to 5 songs. The clients are welcome to pick a set list from our repertoire or let us choose the music for them."
