Robert Goleman is a familiar figure to Coastal Northern California audiences, renowned for both his magical and musical performances. He brings his distinctive blend of creativity and showmanship to every occasion, whether it's a party, special event, or theater production.
With more than 50 years of stage experience, Robert Goleman invites audiences into riveting, intimate performances of magic and mentalism that have been described as “nothing short of astonishing.” Blending suspense, humor, and genuine audience connection, his performances turn every demonstration into a personal encounter – one that feels impossible, unforgettable, and beyond explanation.
Robert's current stage show, The Joy of Astonishment, is more than just another magic show; it is a shared experience of wonder, crafted for an intimate theatrical setting where every reaction matters. Absent from social media for more than a decade, Robert Goleman’s reputation continues to grow through live performances and enthusiastic word of mouth, proving that the most powerful promotion is still the one audiences carry out of the theater with them.
For theater lovers drawn to wit, wonder, and the thrill of the impossible, Robert Goleman offers intimate experiences where warmth, intellect, and astonishment meet.

Technical requirements are determined by performance and venue.
I need to know the type of venue and the style of performance required, before I am able to give any details.
Parlor shows are as determined, but the more space, the better.
The Joy of Astonishment requires a full stage, preferably 20'+ wide and 15-18'+ deep. (Black Box)
I would have a very hard time saying what my best or favorite gig is... but I would have to say, the opening night performance of "An Evening With The Fabulous Blendos".
With that said, I simply love performing and sharing magic because every audience brings something entirely its own. I enjoy the special way that magic connects us and can make us feel like we’re nine years old again. For me, as a performer playing the role of a magician and mentalist, I have found the greatest reward isn’t the applause but the “gasp factor”: that instant, audible, incredulous reaction, when an audience witnesses what it knows to be impossible. The conundrum of simultaneous belief and disbelief. Raising the question, “Is it merely a trick, or is it truly magic”?
I enjoy performing at any type of event, but my favorite is a stage performance of my current travelling show, "The Joy of Astonishment", a 110-minute immersive event.
Robert Goleman brings more than fifty years of singing, acting, and magic to the stage. Known on the Mendocino coast for his theatrical talents and work as a chocolatier and chef, he has performed with the Mendocino Music Festival, Symphony of the Redwoods, Opera Fresca, The Lamplighters, and The Gloriana Opera Company. His roles range from Charlie Brown to Albin/Zaza in La Cage aux Folles. His original productions blend music, humor, and illusion, from the Fabulous Blendos shows to his gourmet Magical Dinners. Now touring The Joy of Astonishment, Robert is reaching audiences in northern California and beyond. Every venue that has presented him so far has invited him back, with momentum built largely through word of mouth and presenter support. For venues, and those seeking a distinctive live experience, Robert offers magic and wonder that lingers well beyond his performance.
Every performance is tailored to each individual event. I have my own style and approach to everything I do - interjecting humor and mystery, with lots of audience participation. It has been said that my performance style is a wonderful blend of warmth and intellect.
It depends on the individual performance style and venue.
Walk around event, I arrive 30 minutes before performing, or as determined. These events can range from 1 to 3 hours
Parlor type show - As determined, though I generally arrive up to 2 hours before performing. These events generally range from 60-90 minutes.
Stage event - As determined.
My full stage show, "The Joy of Astonishment", is 110 minutes, in one act, without an intermission, and is suitable for all ages, though best for ages 10 and up. The show requires several hours for load-in, set-up and load-out, as well as for lighting and sound tech (lighting set in advance).
For venues booking "The Joy of Astonishment: A stage and set plan, and a lighting cue to cue w/redacted script are available, upon booking.
I am happy to perform outdoors (as long as it's not in full sun, wind, or inclement weather). A level surface, space to set up, and the ability to have control over sightlines are essential.
"A spellbinding show that kept us amazed from start to finish! It was more than a show—an unforgettable journey into the impossible. We felt like magic and mystery came alive right in front of us."
“I was simply thunderstruck by his showmanship… and he succeeded in blowing my mind.”
"Robert has a way of bringing you in that is magical in itself."
“He reminded me about how incredible it is to have wonder in my life! Robert is an extraordinary performer who will leave you questioning reality.”
“His talent is beautiful; his personality is soft and comfortable… absolutely magical.”
“I have seen quite a few magic shows in my lifetime and have never been more entertained by any of them as I have been by Robert.
“By anybody’s measure, Robert Goleman is a Renaissance Man: actor, amazing singer, magician, chef, pastry chef, wedding cake creator, nurseryman, chocolatier, orchid and cacti expert…the list is astoundingly long and his creativity endless.
