About / Biography

I am a very experienced and competent drummer in the Temecula, CA area who plays all styles well. I also sing lead and backup vocals. I have been doing paying gigs and giving drum lessons for 46 years. I have a great reputation for being prepared and reliable, and people often compliment me on my timing and dynamics. I can read music, and I have spent most of my time playing in dance, rock & roll, and jazz cover bands, and I have also performed and recorded with some very diverse original artists. I have rehearsed and performed with a few grammy winning artists, such as Plas Johnson (Wrecking Crew/Henry Mancini), Carmen Bradford (Count Basie Orchestra), and George Whitty (Brecker Bros, David Sanborn, Santana). I look forward to connecting with other great players and audiences, as well.

Technical Info

What are your basic technical requirements?

Room for a drum kit.

What information do you require about a venue?

The usual time, place, pay, and if food is provided.

Do you provide sound and lighting equipment?

I bring all the drums, cymbals, microphones, cords, etc, needed for the gig. Sometimes I bring a small mixing board that is only for the drums.

Can you provide a Spotify/DJ service before and between your sets?

No

Are you an educated drummer?

I have spent countless hours practicing everything from the fundamentals of drumming to advance techniques. I can read music. I have been giving drum lessons for decades, and I have studied with some of the best drummers in the world, including Tom Brechltien (Chick Corey, Al De Meola, Kenny Loggins), and Michael Stephans (David Bowie, Bennie Maupin)

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the best gig you've ever done and the best venue you've ever worked at?

One of the best venues I've played was playing The Pechanga Theater in Temecula, CA with Guilty Conscience. The best gig was probably at Lorimar Winery with Lifetime Rocker.

What's your favourite type of event?

I like smaller venues with good vibes and plenty of dancers.

What's your previous experience and how did you start gigging?

I grew up playing in concert and jazz bands and a symphony orchestra. I am a fit good looking 64 year old, and I started gigging in 1980. Most of my gigs have been with dance, rock, jazz combos, and big bands.

Which artists have you been most influenced by, who is your favourite artist and what is the greatest song of all time?

Influenced by drummers like Stewart Copeland, Buddy Rich, and Lenny White, just to name a few. My favorite band is The Beatles, of course.

Performance Info

What are your typical setup and performance times?

With no sound man provided and a full microphone set up, I need about an hour and a half to set up. I usually show up 2.5 hours early so that there's less stress. I usually play 3-4 hour gigs.

Are you happy to perform outside?

I love playing outside when the weather is cooperating.

Do the clients have a say in what you play or is it a set repertoire list only?

I play drums to whatever song the band wants to play.

How do previous clients most commonly describe your performances?

People love my drumming. I have good timing and dynamics, and when I sub for other drummers, they almost always like my drumming better than the permanent drummer.
