About / Biography

Howdy bab!

Independent Country are six cowboys based in Birmingham (UK) who take Indie classics on a rollicking ride to Nashville and back. Floppy fringes and baggy jeans are binned for pedal steel guitars and four-part harmonies as the NME meets The Grand Ole Opry. You ain’t never heard nothing like this!

With a repertoire of over 50 songs across 4 albums and numerous EPs, they can play either full-band sets that’ll tear the house down on a drunken Friday night, or else a laid-back acoustic show that will provide the ideal soundtrack to a regretful, hungover Sunday.

Since their debut live show in the summer of 2016 the band have played festivals all over the UK, including barnstorming sets at Shiine On Weekender, Bearded Theory and Moseley Folk festivals, and have headlined shows at London’s prestigious Union Chapel. They have gigged with artists such as House of Love, The Tubs, CUD, Miki Berenyi, Karl Blau, Cale Tyson, Bob Log III, The Surfing Magazines and members of Teenage Fanclub, Belle & Sebastian and Dexys.

Technical Info

What are your basic technical requirements?

We need a performance space suitable for six musicians, drum kit, pedal steel and amps. We have one lead vocal and three backing vocals. We need power for five amps at stage rear, and three pedal boards stage front.

What information do you require about a venue?

We need specific directions and loading instructions (times, loading entrance, parking availability, etc.).

Do you provide sound and lighting equipment?

We can be completely self contained with full backline and vocal PA. We're happy to use the venue PA if it is sufficient. For larger events where a full PA is required, this should be supplied by the customer/venue. We don't supply a lighting rig.

Can you provide a Spotify/DJ service before and between your sets?

We can provide a suitable playlist between sets, if given prior notice.

Performance Info

What are your typical setup and performance times?

We normally arrive at least 2 hours before performance time to set up. We normally perform 2 x 45 minutes sets, and can extend this to 2 x 60 minutes. We can agree specific set times on booking.

Are you happy to perform outside?

We're happy to play outside as long as there is sufficient cover from heat or rain, and safe external power supplies to the stage. We don't supply marquees or outdoor stages.

Do the clients have a say in what you play or is it a set repertoire list only?

We have our own repertoire, but may be able to include one or two specific songs, if they fit and we're given enough notice to rehearse them.

How do previous clients most commonly describe your performances?

We're a good time party band playing indie classics reimagined as barnstorming country rock. We can get the crowd up and dancing and deliver a real hoedown party! Country fans love the music, indie fans like the cheeky covers! (We've been described as a covers band for people who don't normally like covers bands...)
