San Francisco-born Jerry Hannan is a distinguished songwriter and entertainer.
Jerry travels solo or as a Duo and plays for all venue types that need an inspiring original music performance.
Hannan’s song “Society” which he recorded with Eddie Vedder for “Into the Wild” remains Vedder’s most downloaded song with over 250 million Spotify streams.
The Mad Hannans musical group started as Jerry and Sean Hannan in 1996, with their first album “Madly in Love with you”, which became a local cult classic over the years. Sean passed away in 2013 and is remembered in the 2017 film “Mad Hannans” directed by Martin Shore.
Working under T-Bone Burnett, Jerry did 48 musical performances in Sam Shepard’s 2000 play, “The Late Henry Moss,” which featured Sean Penn, Nick Nolte, Cheech Marin and Woody Harrelson at San Francisco’s Theatre on the Square.
In 2003, Jerry recorded his second album, “Sounds like a Story.” The song “DaDaDa” was featured in the film “The Pledge” starring Jack Nicholson.
He also appeared as a raucous singer who offsets a romantic conversation between Harry Connick, Jr. and Sara Jessica Parker in “Life without Dick.”
Described as “shades of Dylan and John Prine…very Americana with a faint Irish lilt.” Hannan’s songs like those of Bruce Springsteen, Steve Earl and Cat Stevens, speak of our everyday lives and the magic that we sometimes miss. He’s a storyteller known for his unique lyrics that are often funny and sardonic in a good-natured way. His performances are both uplifting and exuberant, highlighting issues such as ecology, friendship, and love.
Jerry was raised on jigs and ballads in San Francisco’s Irish community. He grew up listening to the music of his Irish-born parents, The Dubliners and The Clancy Brothers, as well as Cat Stevens.
“Mad Hannans,” a documentary telling the touching story of brothers Jerry and Sean, premiered at the Mill Valley Film Festival in October 2017 to sold out audiences. During its European debut in 2018, the film received the Best Documentary Award at the Manchester UK Film Festival.

I started writing songs in my teens and became popular in San Francisco Bay Area playing music festivals, bars venues and winery events. I travelled through Europe with a trio in the early days. Later I began writing songs for Hollywood Films.
My first big influence was Cat Stevens when I was 9 years old. I have been greatly influenced by Stevens and John Prine as well as many rock bands from the 70's and 80's - Led Zeppelin to Neil Young to many more.

I usually arrive 1 hour before performance time depending on other logistics.
I prefer up to 2 hours of total performance time.
