Jesse Jordan Biography
Jesse Jordan’s love for songwriting started in his high school years. Before long he started a band with a group of his school friends and his talent was quickly recognized by industry professionals.
Alex Power from Farmyard Studio in Gordons Bay started mentoring Jesse at an early stage. They spent a lot of time in the studio developing his songs. In 1999 they entered the ‘Shell Road to Fame’ national competition where Jesse took 1st prize without difficulty. A record deal from Universal Studios followed quickly thereafter and released his first full-length album ‘Lately When She Cries’ under the label. The first track on the album, ‘Eastern Bridge’, received favorable airplay among community radio stations as well national stations like RSG and Radio2000.
The next couple of years saw Jesse developing his songs and style to eventually form the Jesse Jordan Band in 2004. During this period Jesse performed at big South African festivals like Woodstock, Aardklop, KKNK, Knysna Oyster Festival, and Up the Creek to name a few. He also released 2 singles, ‘Broken’ and ‘Tripping’ which received airplay on Radio 5 (5FM)
In 2004 Jesse started the Jesse Jordan Band and released 2 singles titled ‘Flipside’ and ‘There Goes My Mind’. ‘Flipside’ received airplay on most community radio stations and was also playlisted on Radio 5(5FM) and is up to date Jesse’s most popular song. ‘There Goes My Mind’ was selected by Radio 5 to be recorded at their studios in Johannesburg and was released on Radio 5 compilations and received airplay on the station.
Another single, ‘Not Here’, was released and received airplay on 5FM, RSG, and community stations. A video was also released for the same song and received airplay on the South African Music channel on DSTV, MK89. Jesse carried on with extensive touring and gigging across the country for the next couple of years sharing stages with all the big-name artists of South Africa.
The 2nd full-length album titled ‘Inconsistent Behaviour’ was released in 2012 and yet another song off the album, ‘Would I Lay Down” received airplay on 5FM and RSG. Jesse was also invited on the popular television show ‘Dis hoe dis it met Steve’ where the same song was also played on air.
The success of the 2nd album had Jesse touring over the next couple of years. Jesse performed at most festivals over the country and was always sold out at any of his hometown shows in the Helderberg area, Western Cape. The success of the album did have its toll on the band with members changing and long relationships broken. This however did not leave Jesse lying down. With some old and some new members, Jesse came back with a bang.
The band worked hard and in 2014 they were the official opening act for Rodriquez on his South African tour. Also sharing stages with artists such as Prime Circle, Arno Carstens, and the late Johnny Clegg. After yet another couple of years of touring and gigging, they released their 3rd full-length album, ‘Ready for the World’ in 2017. The single off the album, ‘Cigarettes and Cups of Coffee’ was playlisted on KFM and also reached the Top40 of the same station.
Jesse embarking on his solo career In 2019 Jesse released 2 singles, ‘Treading on Time’ and ‘Breathe Again’ on all platforms with great success. ‘Treading on Time’ was playlisted on RSG and ‘Breathe Again’ on RadioWave (Namibia). The success of his new singles also impacted the European market and Jesse toured Germany extensively.
2020 will see Jesse embarking on a new cycle of his life. He will be moving away completely from all cover gigs and only focus on his original work. His shows will consist of his journey of his career the past 20 years, taking you on an in-depth ride, the ups and the downs, the frustration, and the success. He is already working on his next material in the studio and a new album will definitely come to light in 2020.
