About / Biography

Based in Warwickshire, Jools is a highly sought-after violinist with over three decades of professional experience. While 2025 was his busiest year to date—characterised by a prestigious international performance in Dubai and a dynamic festival schedule—his core focus remains providing a bespoke, intimate solo soundtrack for weddings, funerals, and private events.

Jools’ reputation for excellence is built on his remarkable versatility. Recently, he has toured nationwide as a featured multi-instrumentalist (violin and guitar) for the ‘Summer in Nashville’ festival circuit. Performing with a premier Shania Twain tribute ensemble, he has played to crowds of up to 12,000 people at major venues from the Isle of Wight to Aberdeen. His collaborative work also saw him take to the stage at the legendary Cropredy Festival, further cementing his status within the UK’s live music scene.

However, when performing as a solo artist, Jools specialises in the "art of the atmosphere." Whether he is providing an enchanting backdrop for a wedding ceremony, an art exhibition, or a corporate event in a stately home, he brings a touch of elegance and personal connection that only a seasoned professional can offer. He prides himself on a truly bespoke service, working closely with clients to curate a repertoire that spans classical masterpieces, contemporary pop hits, smooth jazz, and traditional folk.

This sensitivity has also made Jools a firm favourite within the care sector. He maintains a busy schedule of regular repeat bookings at care homes and Memory Cafés, where his uplifting performances are specifically tailored to engage residents and those living with dementia.

Logistically, Jools is fully self-contained. He provides a high-quality, compact PA system with a small visual footprint—ideal for historic or intimate venues where aesthetics are paramount. For larger events, he is equipped to integrate seamlessly into house systems for a more expansive sound.

His career history includes national television appearances (The X Factor with Susan Boyle, The Gadget Show) and collaborations with legends such as Horace Panter (The Specials). A prolific studio artist, his recent credits include songwriting and session work for the Warner Chappell label, contributing to albums that have reached the Top 20 in the UK Americana, Indie, and Folk charts.

Whether performing for a private audience or a festival crowd, Jools combines technical virtuosity with a deep understanding of how to read a room, ensuring a memorable experience for every generation.

Technical Info

What are your basic technical requirements?

To ensure the best possible performance, I simply require access to a standard, adjacent power socket and a flat performance area. If your event is outdoors, I ask for a shaded or sheltered space to protect the instruments and electrical equipment from direct sunlight or damp conditions. I am fully self-contained and designed to be as low-maintenance as possible for the organiser.

What information do you require about a venue?

I aim to make my arrival and set-up as discreet as possible. To assist with this, it is helpful to know about the available parking and loading access, as well as the earliest time I can access the performance space. Additionally, I like to confirm whether the venue prefers me to use my own compact PA system or if they would like me to integrate into an existing in-house sound system.

Do you provide sound and lighting equipment?

I provide all necessary high-specification sound equipment. I travel with a professional, compact PA system specifically chosen for its small visual footprint; this ensures a rich, full sound that complements, rather than distracts from, the aesthetics of historic venues or art exhibitions. While I do not provide specialist stage lighting, my setup is neat and professional, ensuring it blends seamlessly into your event's decor. For larger-scale events, I am also fully equipped to integrate directly into a venue’s house system.

Can you provide a Spotify/DJ service before and between your sets?

I am more than happy to provide a curated playlist of background music from my own library to maintain the atmosphere during my breaks or while guests are arriving. If you have a specific genre in mind, please let me know in advance so I can ensure the playlist is perfectly tailored to your requirements. Alternatively, I am happy for you to connect your own device (phone or tablet) to my PA system during these times. Please note that this service is intended to complement my live performance sets and does not extend to a full DJ service after my live music has concluded.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the best gig you've ever done and the best venue you've ever worked at?

The highlight of this past year was undoubtedly the 'Summer in Nashville' festival tour—performing for 12,000 people was a fantastic rush. However, for sheer atmosphere, my favourite venues are always historic stately homes like Wollaton Hall (famously used as The highlight of this past year was the 'Summer in Nashville' festival tour—performing for 12,000 people was a fantastic rush. However, for sheer atmosphere, my favourite venues are always historic stately homes like Wollaton Hall (the location for Wayne Manor in the Batman films), where I recently performed for a wedding proposal. My career has also taken me to the Royal Albert Hall and to a live BBC Radio 3 concert at the RSC’s 'The Other Place' for Shakespeare’s 400th anniversary. Whether it's a national broadcast or an intimate garden wedding, bringing bespoke elegance to a venue is always a real honour.

What's your favourite type of event?

While the energy of a festival stage is incredible, my favourite events are, without doubt, weddings. I specialise in crafting the perfect bespoke soundtrack for the day, ensuring the music transitions seamlessly from the emotional weight of the ceremony to a sophisticated, relaxed drinks reception. One of my most memorable weeks was performing at Royal Ascot; it required learning an entirely new repertoire on the fly with a new ensemble, and that challenge of delivering perfection under pressure is exactly what I bring to every wedding I play.

What's your previous experience and how did you start gigging?

My background spans over thirty years of professional performance, though my journey began much earlier. I’ve always thrived in 'deep end' environments—from being called up with 24 hours' notice to perform in Susan Boyle’s orchestra on The X Factor, to a ten-year residency with a band that famously never rehearsed, introducing new material live on stage every night. This has given me an instinctive ability to 'read a room' and adapt to live changes instantly. Today, my career ranges from international solo performances in Dubai to touring nationally with premier folk and country ensembles. This breadth of experience ensures I bring both high-level musicianship and a calm, unflappable professional presence to every event.

Which artists have you been most influenced by, who is your favourite artist and what is the greatest song of all time?

My influences are incredibly broad, which is a vital asset for a session musician. While I grew up with the energy of rock and metal, my violin playing was heavily shaped by the contemporary folk styles of artists like Seth Lakeman and the experimental flair of Andrew Bird. These days, my greatest inspiration comes from my own eclectic record collection; I love putting it on random selection and rediscovering everything from classical masterpieces to hidden indie gems. This wide-reaching appreciation for all genres means I am always excited to help clients select music that is meaningful to them, regardless of the style.

How does your experience performing at major festivals and international events benefit a private client?

I bring a festival-grade level of professionalism and reliability to every event. My 2025 schedule included playing main stages for crowds of up to 12,000 and performing internationally in Dubai. This extensive experience ensures that my technical setup is flawless, my performance is polished, and I can handle the pressure of your most important day with absolute confidence.

What is your solution for venues where aesthetic elegance and minimal visual clutter (e.g., stately homes) are paramount?

My entire setup is designed for discretion. I utilise a compact PA system chosen specifically for its 'small footprint,' ensuring it delivers a rich sound without dominating the space. Crucially, I am also fully equipped to integrate directly into any in-house sound system, allowing the music to be expansive while the equipment remains virtually invisible.

Beyond the violin, what multi-instrumental skills and high-calibre session experience do you possess?

I am a multi-instrumentalist, not just a violinist. I perform on both violin and guitar for current bands (including the Shania Twain tribute) and act as a multi-instrumental dep, proving deep versatility. My session credentials include joint songwriting and musician contributions on an album released by the Warner Chappell record label, and features on recordings that have achieved a Top 20 position in the UK Americana/Folk charts.

Performance Info

What are your typical setup and performance times?

My professional, compact PA system allows for a rapid and discreet setup, typically requiring 30 to 45 minutes. I always aim to be fully sound-checked at least 30 minutes before your guests arrive to ensure a seamless start.

Performance times and breaks are entirely bespoke. I pride myself on being flexible to the natural flow of your day; if a ceremony runs over or a photo session takes longer than planned, I adapt instantly. If your event involves moving locations—such as from a chapel to a garden—I factor in a brief window to relocate my equipment efficiently without interrupting the atmosphere.

Are you happy to perform outside?

I absolutely love performing outdoors; I’ve played everywhere from orchard receptions to garden parties. To protect the violin and electrical equipment, I simply require a flat, stable surface and adequate shade (such as an awning, gazebo, or large parasol) to prevent heat damage. As delicate instruments and electronics cannot be exposed to rain, I always recommend having a 'Plan B' indoor space or cover ready so we can move the performance immediately if the British weather changes!

Do the clients have a say in what you play or is it a set repertoire list only?

The music is entirely bespoke to you. You are welcome to choose as many tracks as you like from my extensive repertoire of over 400 songs. To make the day truly personal, I am also happy to learn up to two special requests (songs not currently on my list) inclusive of my fee. My only requirement is that I can source or create a high-quality backing track that meets my professional standards, ensuring your 'aisle moment' sounds exactly as you’ve imagined it.

How do previous clients most commonly describe your performances?

Clients most frequently comment on three things: my versatility, my reliability, and my calm presence.

I often hear from couples that my music 'set the perfect tone' for their day, whether I'm performing a classical arrangement for a ceremony or a pop favourite like Toto’s Africa to keep a nervous groom smiling! I’m often described as 'unflappable'—whether I’m stepping in at 24 hours' notice or adapting to a late-running schedule. Ultimately, my clients tell me that I provide more than just music; I provide a 'magical' and 'classy' atmosphere that makes their guests feel welcome and their special moments feel truly etched in their memories.
