About / Biography

Laura Seymour is an award-winning professional violinist creating unforgettable live music for weddings, celebrations, corporate events and special occasions across the South West, the Cotswolds and across the UK.

With over 15 years of professional experience, Laura combines exceptional musicianship with a warm, personal approach, tailoring every performance to suit the atmosphere, occasion and people she is performing for.

Choose from elegant acoustic violin, amplified acoustic violin with professionally produced backing tracks, or electric violin for a more contemporary, high-energy performance.

Laura's extensive repertoire spans romantic classics, modern pop, rock and alternative music, film and TV soundtracks, Bridgerton-inspired arrangements, classical favourites, dance music and crowd-pleasing party tracks.

From Taylor Swift, Coldplay and Ed Sheeran to Arctic Monkeys, Green Day and Sleep Token, your music can be shaped around the songs and artists that genuinely mean something to you.

For weddings, live violin can accompany your guest arrival, ceremony, drinks reception, wedding breakfast or evening celebrations. Laura can create everything from a romantic soundtrack for walking down the aisle to an upbeat electric violin set that gets guests ready for the party.

Laura also performs for corporate events, private parties, proposals, dinners, launches, celebrations and other special occasions.

Personalisation is at the heart of every performance. Rather than offering one standard playlist, Laura works with each client to create music that complements their event and reflects their individual style.

Bespoke song arrangements can also be created for particularly meaningful pieces.

Professional, friendly and experienced, Laura takes care of the musical details so that you can simply enjoy the experience.

If you're looking for beautiful live violin music with personality, exceptional service and a soundtrack that feels completely your own, Laura would love to hear about your plans.

Technical Info

What are your basic technical requirements?

I only need a small, level performance area with enough space for myself, my violin and my compact sound equipment. If I’m performing amplified or using backing tracks, access to a standard power socket nearby is helpful. For outdoor performances I require a dry, shaded area protected from rain, drizzle and direct sunlight, with a suitable indoor or covered alternative available if the weather changes.

What information do you require about a venue?

It’s helpful to know the performance location, whether it is indoors or outdoors, access and parking arrangements, and whether I’ll need to move between different areas during the event. Please also let me know about any sound limiters, noise restrictions or venue policies relating to amplified music and backing tracks. For outdoor bookings, I’ll also need to know what shelter and wet-weather alternative the venue provides.

Do you provide sound and lighting equipment?

Where amplification is required, I bring my own professional sound equipment for my violin and backing tracks, so clients don’t normally need to arrange anything separately. I can also perform completely acoustically where this suits the venue or occasion. I don’t provide a full event lighting rig or large-scale DJ sound system.

Can you provide a Spotify/DJ service before and between your sets?

I can provide background music through my sound system before or between performances where this is agreed in advance. I’m happy to work with a playlist chosen by the client or select suitable background music to complement the event. This is designed to keep the atmosphere flowing between live sets rather than replace a dedicated DJ service.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the best gig you've ever done and the best venue you've ever worked at?

One of the most exciting performances I’ve ever been part of was a surprise proposal for a Bollywood star at Euridge Manor. It was such a beautiful, intimate occasion in an incredible setting, and being trusted to provide the live music for such a personal moment was very special.
Euridge Manor is also one of my favourite venues I’ve worked at. It has such a romantic, luxurious atmosphere and feels completely magical for weddings and proposals. Performing there is always memorable.

What's your favourite type of event?

Weddings are definitely my favourite because every one feels completely different. I love that music can take guests from the anticipation of the ceremony, through an emotional aisle entrance, into a relaxed drinks reception and then something much more energetic later in the day.
The weddings I enjoy most are the ones where couples really embrace their own taste in music. I’ve performed everything from classical and Bridgerton-style arrangements to Taylor Swift, rock, metal, film music and dance tracks. I love when guests suddenly recognise a song they weren’t expecting to hear on violin and you see that reaction of, “This is so them.”
For me, that’s what makes wedding music really special. It shouldn’t just sound beautiful, it should feel personal to the couple.

What's your previous experience and how did you start gigging?

I started playing the violin when I was young and went on to train professionally, completing my Grade 8, a performance diploma, an instrumental teaching diploma and a music degree.
I’ve now been performing professionally for more than 15 years, and over that time my work has evolved enormously. I started from a very classical background, but gradually began arranging and performing more contemporary music and experimenting with amplified acoustic and electric violin.
Wedding and event performances eventually became a huge part of what I do, and I absolutely fell in love with creating music around people’s individual stories rather than simply playing a standard set list.
Today my performances can be anything from completely unaccompanied acoustic violin in a church to upbeat electric violin with backing tracks at a party or corporate event.
Being named UK Wedding & Honeymoon Awards 2026 Music & Entertainment Winner was a particularly lovely milestone and meant a lot after so many year

Which artists have you been most influenced by, who is your favourite artist and what is the greatest song of all time?

This is probably the hardest question for me because my musical taste is very varied!
My classical training means composers such as Elgar, Vivaldi and Bach and have had a huge influence on the way I play, but I also love how artists such as Ellie Goulding, Coldplay and Ed Sheeran write melodies that translate beautifully onto violin.
One of my favourite things about my job is that I might perform Pachelbel’s Canon at one wedding and then Sleep Token, Slipknot, Arctic Monkeys or a dance track at the next. I genuinely don’t think beautiful violin music has to fit into one particular genre.
As for the greatest song of all time, I’d struggle to choose just one, but Can’t Help Falling in Love is very hard to beat for me. It’s timeless, romantic and instantly recognisable, and it still feels incredibly special when played on violin.

What makes your performances different from simply booking background music?

I see live music as part of the experience rather than simply something playing in the background. I spend time understanding the atmosphere you want to create, the music you genuinely love and the moments that matter most to you. I then shape the performance around your event, whether that means a completely unaccompanied ceremony, an elegant drinks reception or an energetic electric violin set. The aim is for your guests to remember not only the music, but how the event felt.

Do you travel for weddings and events?

Yes. I’m based in the South West and regularly perform throughout Somerset, Wiltshire, Bath, Bristol, Gloucestershire, the Cotswolds and further afield across the UK. I’m always happy to travel for the right wedding or event, particularly where clients are looking for a highly personalised live music experience. Travel requirements are confirmed as part of your individual quotation.

Performance Info

What are your typical setup and performance times?

I normally arrive around 45 to 60 minutes before I’m due to perform, which gives me plenty of time to unload, set up, sound check if required and be completely ready before guests arrive.
Performance timings vary depending on the event. Wedding ceremonies usually include guest arrival music followed by all of the key ceremony moments, while drinks receptions, wedding breakfasts and parties are generally performed in sets across the agreed booking time. For longer bookings I build in short breaks where appropriate, while making sure the music flows naturally around the event rather than feeling rigidly scheduled.

Are you happy to perform outside?

Yes, I love performing outdoors when the setting and weather are suitable. I just need a dry, shaded performance area, protection from direct sunlight, and access to power nearby if amplification or backing tracks are being used. Please note that I can not perform outdoors in any rain.
Because violins are particularly sensitive to heat and moisture, an indoor or suitably covered backup option is always important in case the weather changes.

Do the clients have a say in what you play or is it a set repertoire list only?

Absolutely. Personalisation is one of the biggest parts of what I offer.
Clients are welcome to choose as much or as little of the music as they would like from my extensive repertoire. Some couples love choosing every piece themselves, while others give me a handful of favourites, their favourite artists or an idea of the atmosphere they want and trust me to create the rest of the set.
My repertoire ranges from classical and Bridgerton-inspired music to modern pop, rock, alternative, film and TV, dance, R&B, Bollywood and much more. If a meaningful song isn’t already in my repertoire, bespoke arrangements can often be created too.

How do previous clients most commonly describe your performances?

Clients most often talk about the atmosphere the music creates. Words such as beautiful, magical, elegant, unforgettable and perfect for the moment come up frequently.
They also regularly mention how friendly, calm, professional and reassuring I am throughout the planning process and on the day itself. For me, the best feedback is hearing that the music didn’t just sound beautiful, but genuinely helped make the occasion feel more personal and memorable.

Can you learn a special song that isn’t already in your repertoire?

Yes. If there is a particular song that means something to you, I can often create a bespoke violin arrangement especially for your event. This is particularly popular for wedding aisle entrances, proposals, first dances and songs connected to an important memory. I’ll always check that the piece will translate beautifully onto violin before confirming it, and bespoke arrangements are available for an additional fee.

Should I choose acoustic or electric violin for my event?

It depends entirely on the atmosphere you would like to create. Acoustic violin is beautiful for romantic ceremonies, intimate dinners and elegant settings, while amplified acoustic or electric violin works wonderfully for drinks receptions, parties and more energetic celebrations. I can also change instruments or performance style during an event, so your music can evolve with the atmosphere throughout the day.

Can you perform with a DJ?

Yes. Electric violin alongside a DJ is one of my favourite ways to bring extra energy to an evening celebration. I can perform over selected tracks or work with the DJ to create a live violin set that feels spontaneous, exciting and completely different from the earlier parts of the event. This works particularly well for weddings, parties, corporate celebrations and late-night events.

Can you perform Bollywood, rock, alternative or less traditional music on violin?

Absolutely. One of the things I love most about the violin is how versatile it can be. My repertoire includes classical, Bollywood, modern pop, rock, alternative, metal, film and TV, Bridgerton-style arrangements, dance music, R&B and much more. Some of my favourite performances have involved songs guests would never expect to hear on violin. Your soundtrack does not need to be traditional simply because you are choosing live strings.
