Leah, Berklee College of Music graduate and 2018 Jazz Act of the Year nominee for the New England Music Awards has been performing along the East Coast, teaching music, writing and has collaborated with artists such as Valerie Simpson, Peter Collins, Kennedy Administration, Binky Griptite, J.C. Hopkins and his Biggish Band, Tom Browne, Avery Sharpe and Yoron Israel. Her most recent singles 'Away', 'Teach Me' and latest EP 'SonKissed' are available on all purchasing and streaming platforms. There have been so many gig that I have enjoyed. One of my favorites has been a recent Berklee Festival in Boston with artists Yoron Israel and High Standards. It was a beautiful day outside and the audience was so receptive. They sang with us, they danced and enjoyed themselves right along with us. One of my favorite venues to perform at is the historical Minton's Playhouse in Harlem, NY. This venue was hosted many of the jazz greats we know and learn from to this day.
We love playing at all sorts of events but private parties our favorite! We love when our guests get up and dance to our groovin' music. We also love to join in on themed events.
Originating from Henderson, North Carolina, I grew up singing in school, church, community choirs and studying music and instruments grew my love for and knowledge of different styles of music. I always had a fondness of jazz and soul music starting at a young age, as my father would play Jazz and Motown music on the radio. I went to High School and College for music and went on to perform in some of the top NYC venues and with some of the top artists.
I have been influenced by artists such as Sarah Vaughan, Ella Fitzgerald, Sammy Davis Jr., Nat King Cole, Anita O'Day, Alicia Keys, Anita Baker, Norah Jones, Whitney Houston, Antonio Jobim, and Sade to name a few. My favorite artists and most influential artist to me is jazz vocalist, Sarah Vaughan.
I have worked with artists such as Valerie Simpson, Peter Collins, Kennedy Administration, Ernest Pugh, Binky Griptite, J.C. Hopkins and his Biggish Band, Tom Browne, Avery Sharpe and Yoron Israel.
There are an innumerable amount of amazing songs. One of my top greats songs is Luther Vandross - If This World Were Mine.
Set up depends on the amount of band members. A typical set up time is an hour of set up and performance times are generally an hour to 3 hours. I welcome multiple sets and longer durations as well.
