About / Biography

Lisa Graham is a classically trained flutist and dedicated educator with a passion for making the music in your life a little more special. With over 20 years of experience, Lisa shares her musical talents at weddings, corporate events, concerts, and more. One of her most memorable experiences was a 2012 trip to Portugal, where she, along with three other musicians, delivered an innovative Science and Music program. This unique presentation explored the intersection of arts and sciences by highlighting famous individuals who excelled in both fields, interweaving scientific insights with captivating musical performances. This multidisciplinary approach has continued to influence her teaching and performance style.

As a performer, Lisa is known for her ability to bring the unexpected to the stage. Whether curating obscure gems from forgotten composers or introducing new works by local talents, she delights in creating fresh and inspiring musical experiences for her audiences. Her performances range from street busking to formal concert halls, both as a soloist and as a member of various ensembles, including the Calgary Chamber Flutes and Celtic punk band The Shillelaghs.

As a composer, Lisa brings her unique musical journey and multidisciplinary influences to life through her original compositions. Her compositions reflect her deep connection to nature and innovative approach to blending natural sounds with music. Notable works like “Spring Meadow” capture the serene beauty of the day in a meadow in spring, while “Ambient Bees with Flute Reverie” uniquely incorporates recordings of her honeybees, creating a mesmerizing soundscape that bridges the organic and the melodic. In addition to her original compositions, Lisa is also a session musician, collaborating with artists from various genres and bringing her distinct, versatile flute sound to a wide range of projects.

Lisa’s teaching philosophy centers on nurturing independent musicianship through student-centric learning. She encourages her students to explore their interests, develop self-evaluation skills, and take ownership of their musical journey. With a holistic approach that integrates music with physical and mental exercise, she empowers her students to grow not only as musicians but also as creative individuals.

In every facet of her work, Lisa Graham is committed to fostering a love of music, igniting curiosity, and helping others discover the joy and beauty that music can bring to life. Whether performing on stage or guiding her students, she continues to weave together her passions for music, education, and discovery into a rich and fulfilling career.

I will need to know the location of the venue, parking information, what time I can arrive to set up, and where I should enter.

Do you provide sound and lighting equipment?

No

Can you provide a Spotify/DJ service before and between your sets?

Performance Info

Are you happy to perform outside?

Yes provided weather conditions are suitable. A heat source may be needed for cold temperatures (otherwise fingers are not very nimble) and protection from wind is helpful.

Do the clients have a say in what you play or is it a set repertoire list only?

I have a long list of repertoire I can play. I'm happy to work with you to develop a cusotmized list or you can leave it in my hands. If you would like a piece outside of our standard repertoire, there may be an extra charge to cover costs to acquire.
