Frequently Asked Questions

What is the best gig you've ever done and the best venue you've ever worked at?

I played an outdoor 4th of July celebration where there were hundreds of patrons walking around. I was hired to play background flute smooth jazz in the park. As I was performing, I noticed literally dozens of folks sort of moving and dancing (as they were listening to my playing) as they walked through the park enjoying the festivities. I even had several dozen folks form a half circle around the stage and just listened to me like it was a concert.

What's your favourite type of event?

I love to perform for private parties/corporate events where I get to help set the mood for the evening. It always thrills me to be an important part of the festivities.

What's your previous experience and how did you start gigging?

David’s musical journey began at age ten, when he first picked up the flute and quickly became captivated by its expressive possibilities. With an insatiable appetite to learn, he immersed himself in practice and performance, exploring every style he could. By the time he entered college, David was already performing in some of the top nightclubs across the Tampa Bay area, showcasing his versatility and love for live music.

The next natural step was the road. David toured extensively throughout the Eastern United States, performed on cruise ships, and brought his music to audiences in the Bahamas. He learned, very early in his career, to always give it his all treating every performance like it may be his last. A true multi-instrumentalist, not only can he dazzle on flute but also on saxophone and electric bass. Along the way, he has shared stages with musical greats such as RCA’s Razzy Bailey, Alabama, Johnnie Lee Johnson (Jaimoe from the Allman Brothers Band), Chuck Leavell of the R

Which artists have you been most influenced by, who is your favourite artist and what is the greatest song of all time?

John Pierre Rampal, and James Galway influenced me greatly as far as the classical area. Nestor Torres is my favorite Latin jazz flutist. Probably the greatest jazz song, for me, is Europa.

Performance Info

What are your typical setup and performance times?

We normally arrive 2 hours before the performance to set up. We normally perform 2 x 45 (or 3 x 45) minute sets. We’re happy to play a bit longer or shorter but we’ve found that these set times suit us and our audiences best

Are you happy to perform outside?

We’re happy to play outside but we ask for shade, a flat level surface and a power supply close to the performance area. The temperature must be over 70 and not too windy.

Do the clients have a say in what you play or is it a set repertoire list only?

Normally I have a set list I follow but if you have a special request with enough heads up time I could accommodate.

How do previous clients most commonly describe your performances?

I have had clients say that my music was wonderfully refreshing and sophisticated. Another client told me that my music was perfect as background music for their 4th of July outdoor celebration in the park.

What type of performance career have you have?

David feels at home whether he is performing in a symphony orchestra or in a pit for a musical. A versatile musician, David is a professional-level performer on flute, saxophone, and electric bass. Over the years, he has toured and shared the stage with an impressive list of artists, including RCA recording artist Razzy Bailey, Alabama, Johnnie Lee Johnson (Jaimoe) of the Allman Brothers Band, Chuck Leavell of the Rolling Stones, The Four Tops, The Temptations, and even world-class productions such as Ringling Brothers & Barnum Bailey Circus, Holiday on Ice, and The Ice Capades. His career has taken him across the Eastern United States and onto cruise ships sailing to the Bahamas.

Today, David focuses on performing as a solo act, featuring the flute accompanied by his own professionally produced backing tracks. His performances highlight both original smooth jazz/easy-listening music and carefully curated selections that create a refined, enjoyable ambiance for any event.
