I am an American violinist based in Tokyo, Japan, performing classical music and creative arrangements of popular music and anime soundtracks at weddings, proposals, and other events. I not only performs as a soloist, but also collaborate with local musicians in Tokyo, forming ensembles such as violin and cello duo, violin and piano duo, string quartet, and more!
As a native English speaker who is also fluent in Japanese, I can communicate effectively with both international clients and local collaborators.
I frequently perform as soloist or as part of an ensemble during wedding ceremonies, receptions, and dinners. For longer events I am happy to travel to other areas in Japan, or even abroad!
Proposing during your trip to Japan is a beautiful way to elevate the occasion by setting it in a special location during a memorable trip together with your partner. With a bit of planning and help from local musicians and photographers, you can make this a reality.
With experience performing at proposals in the United States, Europe, and Japan, I’ve performed for both locals and visitors from all over the world, preparing song requests that range from anime film tracks to contemporary Turkish and Mandopop.
As a composer and arranger, I take great care in adapting your song selections to the violin by writing custom musical arrangements that capture the essence of the original song.
Possible Locations
Prince Shiba Park near Tokyo Tower: The area around Tokyo Tower is a perfect place to propose, offering scenic areas as well views of one of the most iconic structures in Japan. There are a few locations in this area that I would recommend. The first is Prince Shiba Park. In the southwest area of the park, there is a circular green area with a great view of the tower. In the northwest area (near exit A6 of Onarimon Station) there is a walkway that takes you towards the tower, which would also be a great location. Just across the street towards the west of Prince Shiba Park, there is an area called Momiji-dani, which is a foresty area that can also be a nice choice.
Chidorigafuchi Green Way: Chidorigafuchi Green Way is a walkway on the opposite side of the Imperial Palace with lots of sakura trees and a view of the water surrounding the palace. If you are visiting Tokyo during sakura season around late March or the beginning of April, you'll be able to propose among the sakura blossoms in full bloom! There is an area that is nicely lit at night when there are fewer people around, if you are interested in proposing after dark.
Showa Kinen Park: Showa Kinen Park takes you away from the hustle and bustle of Tokyo into the Tachikawa neighborhood. The park is huge and filled with beautiful scenery.
Yoyogi Park: Yoyogi Park is a large green space just a short walk from Shibuya and Meiji Jingu. This is a picturesque, yet casual location that's great for photos and music.
Felice Garden Hibiya: Booking a venue for the proposal can provide a sense of security that is difficult to find in a public space. Felice Garden Hibiya offers a beautiful garden that's casually accessible from the park outside, and well as an indoor chapel area with great acoustics that enhance the music. Felice Garden does require booking the whole venue regardless of the type of event, however, it is definitely worth inquiring if you are looking for an extra bit of assurance while planning your proposal in Tokyo.
Private Dinner at a Restaurant: Some upscale restaurants in Tokyo allow live music to be performed in a private room booking. Ponga Premium is confirmed to allow music, and offers private rooms with a guaranteed view of Tokyo Tower. Brise Verte is a similar option.
Locations that are off-limits
Rikugien Gardens: Since this is a cultural heritage site, music is strictly prohibited here.
Shinjuku Gyouen during morning hours: Music is prohibited in Shinjuku Gyouen. However, since the garden is only staffed during morning hours, a performance is possible during the afternoon as long as it is short (under 15 minutes).
In general, it is safest to stay away from gardens in central Tokyo that require an entry fee if you are planning to have music during your proposal.

Tokyo has many spacious music studio rooms with piano that can be booked for a private performance. If you would like to incorporate this into an occasion like a proposal or anniversary, or if you'd simply like to hear some of your favorite songs arranged for an ensemble in a personalized setting, I can help arrange this.
Booking a room will provide better acoustics and a sense of security as opposed to performing at an outdoor location, which can be impacted by weather or noise regulations.

WCIT Symphony Orchestra in Yerevan Armenia: An orchestra composed of musicians from 15 countries, gathered in Yerevan, Armenia in 2019 for a performance at the World Conference for Information Technology.
Suntory Hall: One of the foremost concert halls in Japan. I was honored to perform here on multiple occasions with the Tokyo Vivaldi Ensemble in a concert that featured several of my arrangements.
I love performing at weddings as well as classical ensemble concerts.

I started gigging as a music student in college when my colleagues invited me to perform at weddings, events, and regional orchestras.
After finishing school, I went all in on being a gigging musician, and I have played at 250+ events, including weddings, proposals, and orchestra concerts across the United States, Europe, and Asia.
My favorite artist is Hilary Hahn. Her expressiveness, combined with laser-precision violin playing is unmatched.
I've also taken a lot of influence from Animenz, who writes and performs classically inspired arrangements of anime music on piano. He inspired me to start arranging anime music myself.
Typically, I can set up within 5 minutes and perform for anywhere between 5 minutes to 3 hours.
Yes, in Tokyo I can generally perform outside between late March and early November (to avoid the coldest part of the year).
I cannot perform in the rain unless there is a fully covered area.
For outdoor performances, we will keep an eye on the weather and reschedule or adjust the location as necessary.
