About / Biography

We are a small jazz band playing tunes from the early swing to contemporary era and charts from the days of the Rat Pack as well as a little funk just to shake things up.

We can scale from a duo up to an 11-piece group and are available for small & large functions; either main performance or background music.

We have performed at backyard engagement parties, full weddings, conferences, and intimate corporate settings. Our customers sincerely appreciate the flexibility of our band and the repertoire available.

Technical Info

What are your basic technical requirements?

Depending on the group configuration (we can scale from a duo to an 11-piece band), we would need anywhere from 6'x8' up to 25'x40'. We are quite flexible in layouts and sizing. Typically, we only need a regular 120V/15A plug for the non-acoustic instruments. We prefer a few armless chairs for the longer events. Our load-in time is typically 1 hour before performance time; however, additional "standing time" would be part of the contract.

What information do you require about a venue?

We would typically want to know the load-in information (location, elevators, how far to the event space) as well. Parking availability for a few cars is preferable, otherwise parking costs would be added to the contract price.

Do you provide sound and lighting equipment?

We usually bring our own audio equipment (speakers, mics); however, we are open to connecting into existing event audio equipment.

Can you provide a Spotify/DJ service before and between your sets?

We can provide some background music in-between sets by connecting into our existing audio equipment.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the best gig you've ever done and the best venue you've ever worked at?

We have performed at a number of locations within the Ottawa/Gatineau region, however, the Museum of History is a great venue to play in.

What's your favourite type of event?

We love playing all types of events: the clients love having live jazz for their weddings, parties, conferences, etc.

What's your previous experience and how did you start gigging?

All the members of the band have been musicians for decades and belong to a number of groups. We regularly have folks come up during or after an event to find out how they can hire us for their upcoming event.

Which artists have you been most influenced by, who is your favourite artist and what is the greatest song of all time?

Our roots are with the jazz standards including Miles Davis, the Jazz Messengers, and those jazz greats but also reach into the funk area with influences from Steve Wonder. We don't have a "greatest song of all time" because there are so many great songs out there.

Performance Info

What are your typical setup and performance times?

We typically load-in 1 hour before performance time; sound check 15 min. beforehand. Our sets are about 1-1.5 hours long and play however long the client wants us there. Most events are about 2-3 hours in length.

Are you happy to perform outside?

Yes, but there needs to be consideration for sun or wet conditions. Preferably, alternate arrangements should be available should it rain that day.

Do the clients have a say in what you play or is it a set repertoire list only?

Absolutely: we regularly have clients request their favourite song. We often can get an arrangement together for the event if there is a specific requirement. We also can provide our entire repertoire for them to choose the songs they would like to hear.

How do previous clients most commonly describe your performances?

A quote from one of our reviews: "They are excellent musicians, very professional, and extremely easy to deal with from start to finish. They create a great atmosphere and are a pleasure to work with. Highly recommended."

What are the typical instruments in the band?

A duo is typically piano and sax;
trio: add a bass;
quartet: add a trumpet or trombone
quintet: add drums
etc.

We can add a vocalist to any of the group.
