What matters is that Canadian born Singer - Songwriter Patsy Thompson made her way to Texas, and back, and now West Coast audiences will only be the better for it. Now they can experience her rich, moving voice, raw edged rough one moment, smooth and tender the next, always dear and soulful, in songs with catchy turns of phrases and such universal themes as love, loss, dreams, and partying your socks off.
Her sound is a textured blend of a driving beat, growly blues with a bit of Canada's airy accent, with some Texas twang, moulded by the influence of musicians she loves: Patsy Cline, Bonnie Raitt, Aretha Franklin, KoKo Taylor, Kris Kristofferson, Merle Haggard, and Willie Nelson to name a few.
While in college in BC, she joined the Wailin' Walker and the House Rockers band and made Rock'n'Roll music and blues for biker dances and parties around British Columbia, until Thompson felt it was time to do her own thing.
She put together a band, The Patsy Thompson Band, and recorded her first album. And her and her country band went on the road, playing some pretty good and not so good bars, dives and dance halls, learning, and crafting her talent.
Texans got their first taste of Patsy in 1992 when she played at the famous South-By-Southwest Festival in Austin. She was hooked, and in 1994 she moved. Even though she went to Nashville for awhile she couldn’t get Austin out of her mind and decided to go back, Patsy found her groove in Austin and recorded at Willie Nelson's Pedernales Recording Studio. The CD, entitled "Make Me Crazy" was produced by the late Steve Mandell, included Willie on guitar on the title track of the album, “Make Me Crazy”
In all Patsy spent 15 years in Austin, recording and touring in the area, sharing the stage with the likes of Willie Nelson, Clint Black, Rusty Weir, and Stop The Truck just to name a few. She also recorded her last album in Texas at Willies Nelsons’s Luck Texas, with the great late David Zettner. The album is called Passion.
But now what matters is that she's back full circle and grateful for all the experiences and her gift of writing music, and wants to share it with you.
Patsy came back to BC to take care of her mom so there was not a lot of free time to get in the studio but with the help of producer and guitar player, Chris Rolin, (Aaron Goodwin) she got the chance to record her latest album, Fabulous Day.
This Album and songwriting is the best of her work to date. It will take you on a ride, full of the experiences and love of music Patsy gives in her songwriting and performance.
Today Patsy has been doing what she loves best, performing in and around the Vancouver area. Her plans for 2025 is to record another album and to tour her homeland, Canada. She is crafting and writing about her personal life experiences, and no doubt it will be heartfelt, relatable, and personal. Catch a show, you won’t be disappointed. On stage she is a powerhouse, passionate, purposeful, and always personal.
