Hailing from the heart of Zululand, David ‘Qadasi’ Jenkins and Maqhinga Radebe are a SAMA Award-winning duo on a quest to revive the powerful sounds of traditional Maskandi music. Both professional musicians in their own right, over the last twelve years the duo have taken their fusion of traditional Zulu and western folk music to audiences in the UK, Europe, Asia and throughout South Africa.
Their acoustic performances weave together original compositions, traditional Maskandi songs, and iconic South African classics, all delivered with authenticity and deep cultural resonance.

We love playing at all sorts of events, including weddings, intimate venues, private family events, corporates and festivals.
The duo first met in Durban in 2010 when David (Qadasi) approached Maqhinga for assistance tuning a concertina. A spontaneous jam session followed - the start of a strong musical partnership and friendship. Maqhinga became the musical director and producer for Qadasi’s early projects, and the pair soon realised the creative power of combining their skills and cultural perspectives.
Since officially joining forces, Qadasi and Maqhinga have toured extensively across South Africa and internationally, captivating audiences in the UK, Europe, and Asia.
We draw inspiration from artists such as Mfaz’ Omnyama, Johnny Clegg, Paul Simon, and Ladysmith Black Mambazo.
We normally arrive 2 hours before the performance to set up.
We typically perform for up to 90 minutes, either as a single full set or divided into shorter sets. We’re happy to play a bit longer or shorter but we’ve found that these set times suit us and our audiences best.
We’re happy to play outside but we ask for shade, a flat level surface and a power supply close to the performance area.
We usually play a set repertoire. If the client has a specific request, we are happy to discuss options.
We are a versatile acoustic act, suited to both intimate settings and large-scale events. Clients book us for atmospheric background music as well as energetic performances.
