Frequently Asked Questions

What is the best gig you've ever done and the best venue you've ever worked at?

Our favorite gig is the casual and engaging energy of our weekly gig at the Yellowstone Lounge in Pocatello, Idaho, a house concert at "Chez Blanchard" (the home of one of our fans), or the vibe of the Hotel Cafe in Hollywood. But providing a classy, nostalgic backdrop to upscale events, like weddings at the Snake River Ranch or Gallatin Guest Ranch, or galas at the Stephens Center with a top-notch tech team have been very satisfying.

What's your favourite type of event?

The intimate vibe of our weekly club engagements are great fun, and we try to bring that vibe to any event we are a part of, unless we are providing a sophisticated backdrop to an event where people are celebrating a bride and groom starting their married journey together, or a special occasion, or a guest of honor celebrating a life well-lived, where we are content to remain in the background.

What's your previous experience and how did you start gigging?

We've had the honor of performing alongside legendary, Grammy Award-winning artists, including Natalie Cole, Llew Matthews, Joe Lovano, Derrick Gardner, and Del McCoury. As individual artists, we have performed on some of the nation's most prestigious luxury stages, including Frank Sinatra’s Twin Palms Estate (Palm Springs, CA), SFJAZZ Center (San Francisco, CA), Amangani Hotel (Jackson Hole, WY), among others. We also enjoy playing on the street together and meeting people in the various locations we've traveled.

Keith initially connected with Freddy through the Eastern Idaho Jazz Society jam sessions--jam sessions being a common source of connection for jazz musicians--where Alex also eventually joined in the mix.

Which artists have you been most influenced by, who is your favourite artist and what is the greatest song of all time?

You can hear the influences of Pete Fountain, Benny Goodman, Artie Shaw, Les Paul, Barney Kessel, Ron Carter, and Ray Brown in our work. The greatest song of all time, we suppose, is the one that connects you to the audience in the moment. Some of our most tender moments of connection with an audience have been with songs like "Over the Rainbow," although there are too many to mention!

What's the most unique playing situation you've been involved in?

Our most unique gig was a romantic dinner on the rooftop of a fraternity house.

What's a funny story about one of your gigs?

In the early '90s, Keith played for movie star Patrick Swayze and his wife, Lisa Niemi, at a secluded restaurant in the Lake Arrowhead area called The Tudor House. After performing, Patrick told Keith how much he enjoyed his playing, which was very satisfying, of course. The funny part--or maybe not so funny--was that Keith's wife and other family members were also dining at a table near Patrick and Lisa that night. Because of the Tudor House's rules about protecting the privacy of its famous clientele who wanted a safe place to dine in peace and anonymity, Keith didn't tell his wife until after he got home. Boy, was he in trouble!

Performance Info

What are your typical setup and performance times?

1 hour setup
2 hour performances (most typical)

Are you happy to perform outside?

We love performing outside (as long as the ground is level, stable, and we are protected from the elements!)

Do the clients have a say in what you play or is it a set repertoire list only?

We lean a lot on the desires of our clients, and we provide them with our repertoire to help them choose their favorites. When requested, we can prepare a special number or two that are not in our standard repertoire.

How do previous clients most commonly describe your performances?

"Happy" is the most common word that our fans use to describe the way our music makes them feel.

Do you require a deposit?

In addition to the 10% fee required by Gig Heaven to broker an engagement, we ask for a non-refundable deposit of 50%, due 60 days in advance of an engagement, in order to reserve the date for you (mainly because we are declining other engagements).
