The Skatz Man – Big Voice. Big Energy. Brilliant Night Out.
The Skatz Man is not your average solo entertainer.
With boundless energy, a huge voice and a theatrical performance style, Skatz turns every gig into a proper show. Armed with guitars, professionally produced backing tracks, an outrageous collection of colourful shirts and an ever-changing selection of hats, he brings personality, humour and sheer enthusiasm to every stage.
His famously eclectic setlist runs from the 70s to the Noughties, from Ska to the Stars – mixing instantly recognisable classics with brilliant songs you won't hear every other act playing. Ska and Two-Tone are particular Skatz specialities, but you can expect everything from rock, pop and soul to reggae, indie and dancefloor favourites.
Most importantly, Skatz knows how to entertain a crowd. Whether it's an intimate bar, private party, restaurant terrace, festival or packed venue, he reads the room, gets people involved and, sooner or later, gets them dancing.
No audience is too small. No venue is too large. Every performance gets the same energy.
Venues that book The Skatz Man tend to have one thing in common:
They book him again.
If you want background music, there are plenty of acts to choose from.
If you want a night people remember, book The Skatz Man.

I require 1 x 13amp power socket, 1 parking space, a performance space of at least 3m x 3m. And if the performance space is up or down some stairs or difficult to reach, some help to carry the equipment.
Directions (preferably with a Google map pin), who's my contact for when I arrive, where I can park
I'm self-contained for small venues. I don't have a lighting rig as such, but I use 2 floor-spots to light me up and some small flashing effects to light what's behind me. If you're a larger venue I would expect there to be some stage lighting - contact me in advance to chat.
I can play some tracks in between sets if the venue isn't set up to play its own selection. Let me know in advance and I can select tracks to suit the event.
The Musician Stage at Summer Sundae festival, De Montfort Hall, Leicester with my band Woodstock and previously with my band Bryter Layter. It wasn't the biggest stage I've ever played on, but the event, the people and the sound engineer made it my favourite, both times.
I love playing in many different venues and at many events, especially if the audience like music (which is most of them most of the time!)
I started gigging while I was still at school and was in theatre shows before that. At University I formed an A Capella group which was popular on the events and universities' circuit in the UK in the 1980's. I've done solo and band performances since then in the UK, Ireland and now in Spain.
Those are the hardest questions to answer because it changes almost every day and for different reasons. For quality of voice, Peter Gabriel has been my favourite most often; David Bowie is high up on the list; Paul Simon for quality and singalong-ability; Madness and The Specials for getting me moving. So many to choose from! And favourite song: whatever I'm singing at the time.
Sorry, but I can't give away my multicoloured shirts or let you steal any of my hats, no matter how many times you ask at a gig. However, I can either sell you a tee shirt at an exorbitant price or show you where I got it much cheaper (on Temu)
Thanks for asking for the shirt off my back though. 🤣
I usually arrive 1.5 hours before the start time, it takes me under an hour to set up but I like to be ready early and not be already sweating before I start singing, especially in the Spanish summer. And it's good to chat to the audience before I start too so I can gauge what they're like. It takes me a little over an hour to pack up, usually because it's good to chat to the crowd and take bookings.
Yes, I love to perform outside, although on a hot sunny day I would need some shade for my equipment. A flat surface to perform on and set out my kit is preferable.
Generally I play my setlist, which I've developed over the years to suit most audiences and it builds towards the breaks and the end of the set so that I get asked for encores and I leave them wanting more. People who book me know I've got a repertoire that's going to work. Having said that, I do have some substitute songs up my sleeve and can do the occasional request. Before I used backing tracks I had about 5 hours of songs I could pull out of the hat, but I'd rather not throw in an acoustic song when the crowd are up dancing.
