About / Biography

I would like to introduce you to Stood On The Wire, which is a high energy self contained male and female duo, with Andy and Frankie, playing covers of well known 50's & 60's Rock and Roll music. Andy has a background playing clubs, pubs, festivals, weddings, party's etc. He plays lead guitar and sings the faster rockier numbers such as by Little Richard or Jerry Lee Lewis. Frankie is the main singer who was classically trained with a crisp clean mezzo soprano voice, but is versatile and able to tackle any song and make it her own. She also sung in care homes for a number of years. In addition Frankie also plays keyboard, and on some numbers bass guitar. On top of this there is a backing track, but it is not your average backing track! Andy creates the tracks himself. A drum machine is maticulously programmed beat by beat to sound as near to a real drummer as possible. Then Andy will play the rhythm and bass, as required, recording it all to a very high standard and to sound as live as possible. The beauty of this is a full band sound for less money and less arguments. The results speak for themselves. Both have been around music for many years in various guises.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the best gig you've ever done and the best venue you've ever worked at?

Rockin' all over the wold, is a large local event which was excellent for us.
Andy has previously performed at Bridlington Spa As well as festivals.

What's your favourite type of event?

Possibly a festival and large clubs, but we enjoy performing where ever they want 50's and 60's Rock and Roll.

What's your previous experience and how did you start gigging?

At the age of 14 I, Andy, joined an old time band called the York Showband playing care homes for a number of years. Soon after I joined a trio called Bruce Elder & The Country Crew, playing primarily country and Western but also, what was known as, middle of the road. The trio played all over the North of England. After this I helped form a duo called senora, soon changed to Rockabilly. Rockabilly played a mixture of country and rock & roll in pubs and working man's clubs around York and surrounding areas, but also as far a field as Morecombe Raiders, Bridlington Spa, Whalesby Country Festival, and anywhere inbetween.
Frankie trained as a classical singer when she was younger and then spent many years teaching music in secondary schools, She taught music to a world famous superstar.....in South Shields of all places!
Frankie also sang in care homes before answering my add for a singer 3 years ago. We have been playing local pubs and outdoor events since.

Which artists have you been most influenced by, who is your favourite artist and what is the greatest song of all time?

I was influenced by The Shadows, Chuck Berry, Little Richard, The Beatles etc.
Frankie is influenced by Connie Francis, Patsy Cline, The Beatles, Carpenters and ABBA.

Performance Info

What are your typical setup and performance times?

2 hours to set up andsound check, we can do any times required, but typically 2x45min or 3x30min sets are standard, but we often go over.
We have keyboard and mic on left and me playing guitar on right, if there's room we have a third mic stand in the middle so Frankie can come out from behind the keyboard when just singing.

Are you happy to perform outside?

So long as there is rain cover or shade cover we're happy to play outside

Do the clients have a say in what you play or is it a set repertoire list only?

We are happy to play requests if we know them. We have a set list but this can change due to requests or audience feedback. But, we are a 50's and 60's Rock and Roll Duo. We can learn specific songs prior to the event but it is dependant on time scale.

How do previous clients most commonly describe your performances?

Fantastic night of 50's and 60's Rock and Roll,.
A good sound, good musician ship and good singers.
Excellent to dance to.

How many power sockets do you need?

1 no. 13amp socket

How many sets do you play and how long?

Standard is 3x30min or 2x45min but we usually end up a bit more. We can do what ever you want, longer playing time may be at an increased cost, it would depend how long you required.
