The Double Standard is a live jazz project based in Graz, created for events that need atmosphere, elegance and real musical presence.
Our repertoire combines vocal jazz, swing, jazz standards and carefully selected songs in English, with touches of Portuguese and Spanish repertoire. Depending on the event, we can create a soft background atmosphere for receptions and dinners, a romantic mood for weddings, a lively swing set for parties, or a full concert-style program as the highlight of the evening.
We offer flexible line-ups to match the venue, budget and character of the event:
duo – vocals and piano,
trio – vocals, piano and double bass,
quartet – vocals, piano, double bass and drums,
quintet – vocals, piano, double bass, drums and saxophone.
The program, duration and technical setup are always discussed individually, so the performance fits naturally into the event. Whether you are planning a wedding, corporate event, private celebration, bar evening, festival or intimate concert, The Double Standard brings a stylish and memorable live jazz experience.
= areas covered (up to 550 miles)
= free travel (up to 10 miles)
Our basic technical requirements depend on the line-up and the size of the event. As a minimum, we need a safe and stable performance area, access to electricity, and enough space for the musicians and instruments.
For a duo or trio, we can usually work with a compact setup. For a quartet or quintet, we need more space for piano/keyboard, double bass, drums, microphones and saxophone. If the event is outdoors, the performance area must be covered and protected from rain, direct sunlight and strong wind.
A short soundcheck before the performance is highly recommended.
To prepare the best setup, we need to know the venue address, whether the event is indoors or outdoors, the approximate number of guests, the size of the performance area, access to electricity, parking/loading options, and whether the venue has any sound restrictions.
It is also helpful to know if the venue already provides a PA system, microphones, piano/keyboard, lighting or a sound engineer.
Sound equipment can be arranged upon request and depends on the venue, line-up and event size. For smaller events, we may be able to provide or arrange a compact sound setup. For larger events, we recommend using the venue’s PA system or hiring a professional sound system with a sound engineer.
Lighting is not included by default, but we are happy to coordinate with the venue or event team if lighting is needed.
Yes, we can provide background playlist music before, after and between our live sets if needed. The music style can be discussed in advance so it fits the atmosphere of the event.
Please note that this is a playlist/background music option, not a full DJ service.
One of our favourite performance experiences was playing for an attentive live audience where the atmosphere felt very close and personal. We especially enjoy venues and events where people really listen, connect with the music and appreciate the elegance of live jazz.
For us, the best places to perform are not only big stages, but also intimate venues, stylish bars, private celebrations and events where live music becomes a meaningful part of the evening.
We love events where music helps create a special atmosphere — weddings, receptions, private celebrations, corporate evenings, elegant dinners and intimate concerts.
Our favourite events are the ones where we can adapt the music to the moment: soft background jazz during dinner, romantic songs for a wedding atmosphere, or a more energetic swing set when the evening becomes more lively.
The Double Standard grew out of our love for vocal jazz, swing and live performance. We started performing together through concerts, jam sessions and different musical projects, and gradually developed our own sound built around vocals, piano, double bass and classic jazz repertoire.
Over time, we created a flexible live jazz project that can work in different formats — from an intimate duo to a full quintet — and adapt naturally to weddings, private events, bars, corporate evenings and concert settings.
We are inspired by the golden era of vocal jazz, swing and timeless jazz standards. Artists such as Ella Fitzgerald, Billie Holiday, Sarah Vaughan, Chet Baker, Louis Armstrong and Nat King Cole have had a strong influence on our musical taste and atmosphere.
It is difficult to choose just one favourite song, but we especially love jazz standards that feel elegant, emotional and timeless — songs that can sound intimate in a small room and still fill a bigger stage with warmth and character.
We usually arrive 60–90 minutes before the performance, depending on the line-up, venue access and technical setup. For larger line-ups or events requiring soundcheck, we may need more time.
Our standard performance options are usually 1 x 60 minutes or 2 x 45 minute sets, but we are flexible and can adapt the timing to the event schedule. Longer performances, multiple sets and background music between sets can be arranged in advance.
Yes, we are happy to perform outside, as long as the conditions are safe for the musicians and instruments. We need a stable, dry and level performance area, access to electricity, and protection from rain, direct sunlight, strong wind or extreme weather.
For outdoor events, a covered stage, tent or sheltered area is required.
We have a carefully prepared jazz repertoire, including vocal jazz, swing, jazz standards and selected songs in English, Portuguese and Spanish.
Clients are welcome to share their preferences, favourite songs or the atmosphere they would like to create. We are happy to adapt the setlist where possible. Specific song requests can be discussed in advance, especially for weddings or special moments, but they may depend on the line-up and preparation time.
Clients usually describe our performance as elegant, warm, atmospheric and professional. They often appreciate that the music feels live and personal without overpowering the event.
We focus on creating the right mood for each moment — from soft background jazz to a more expressive concert-style performance — so the music naturally supports the atmosphere of the event.
